Usain Bolt Just Says No to UK's Taxes on Non-Resident Athletes

In 2010 Bolt pulled out of the Aviva London Grand Prix because of his stance on UK tax, instead deciding to compete in Paris - for which he was paid $250,000.

I assume this will make UK football clubs less competitive over time as well.

I doubt those players are non-resident athletes. It's not about citizenship.

I thought if you didn’t hold an EU passport it took awhile to establish residency status in an EU jurisdiction.

Dunno. Perhaps permanent residency status. If they live there, they're residents by definition. And the non-resident rule will not apply.

Well, now that Francois Hollande will surely want more of Mr. Bolt's pie, bet he won't go back there for a while.
