Cliff Stearns has been in Congress since 1989. On Tuesday, by a less than 800-vote margin, the 12-term incumbent’s career came to an end.

In an Election Day shocker, Gainesville veterinarian Ted Yoho sent Stearns packing in the GOP primary for the 3rd Congressional District, which stretches from Clay County to the Gulf of Mexico.

Stearns was ACU-endorsed and rated at 95, and was investigating Solyndra and some other O scandal, so he doesn’t sound like a RINO. Yoho was endorsed by the Tea Party, though.

Wow! I thought Stearns was considered a good guy — he’s the one who led the investigation into Solyndra. I hope Ted Yoho is the real deal.

OTOH, we should never see the words “12-term incumbent’s career” applied to any politician!

This is just one more instance where a long time member of congress has been thrown out of office for a more conservative person.

I think there was a big change to his district boundaries and that probably helped in his defeat. A 95 conservative rated person is tough to replace....frankly there are a few others I’d like to have seen go more than him.

Yup, the TEA Party is so dead.

The unbiased know-it-alls in the State-Owned Media told me so. In fact, they've told me that more times than I can count.

They needed to tell me over and over in order to drum it into my dumb little head. They're so much smarter than I am.

I hope Yoho can ride the Tea Party wave to victory in the general over the ‘Rat.

Stearns would have been a shoo-in for a pretty solid conservative Republican. Yoho might go down in flames against a strongly backed ‘Rat. It will be a great bellweather for the entire general election.

Cliff was okay but has been a rep for 24 years. Yoho is the real deal. Christian, large animal vet, says he is going for 8 years and coming home. He is tea party at heart.
Allen West ran ads on radio and phone calls for Stearns (he is my congress critter). Been there too long. We are really happy with Yoho.

I wonder whether President You Didn't Build That's handlers have noticed a trend in the past couple years.

It’s GOOD - Stearns is part of the ‘been there too long’ crowd. They are conservative on some things, but not all. Glad to see him retired.

I'm in this district.

Stearns was redistricted and actually bought a house in Orange Park to be legal. He is from Ocala but the redrawn lines necessitated his move.

He has been a reliable conservative for all his years in Congress and I did vote for him.

Having said all that Yoho appears to be a good choice and a chance at getting new blood in the House...he's just a political unknown and only time will tell.

Stearns was the real deal.

He’s the one that sponsored the nationwide reciprocity bill for CCW holders.

Yeah, he bought in my neighborhood. Frankly, I think losing him was a mistake.
