BOSTON (AP) - Barack Obama's re-election campaign kept up pressure against Republican rival Mitt Romney on two fronts Friday, launching a new ad defending the president's record on Medicare while challenging Romney to release at least five years of tax returns.

I must admit I am beginning to wonder why he won’t release them. We already know he’s rich. Of course, I wonder why Obama won’t release ANYTHING. But with the Obama campaign harping on this, and Romney continuing to refuse, he is beginning to look like he has something to hide. We know Obama has a lot of hide. At least Romney should tell Obama “I’ll show you mine if you show me yours”.

There is no lawful requirement for anybody to release tax returns, period. Somebody did it first and now it’s precedent, but it’s not a requirement.

You assume he has secrets to hide. If he had any secrets that mattered (unlawful tax dealings) the IRS would be all over him and they aren’t.

Obama didn't get a pass from the media because he's "half-black". He got a pass for the same reason Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank, and Robert KKK Byrd all got a pass. They are DEMOCRATS.

You'll have to present evidence of wrongdoing before you can demand extensive paperwork for him to "prove his innocence". Harry Reid's invisible friend is not good enough for me and it wouldn't have been good enough for the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

Romney was engulfed in a very similar drawn-out debate in 2002 by refusing to release his returns as governor, even while calling on his opponents to do the opposite, he probably figures he can lay low for a while, deflect back to the real problems of the country and ride this one out as well. He clearly plays by a different set of rules than every other presidential candidate for the last thirty years, all of whom lived up to the standard of transparency set by George Romney. At the least Mitt needs to stop embarrassing himself with the excuses and “trust me” comments.

I’ve heard it explained that his type of tax returns are complicated, and I believe the main (valid) reason he wouldn’t want to release them is because of the way the president’s team would twist them around into “proving” some kind of crime or ethical violation. Seriously, Obama’s campaign ran an ad accusing Romney of MURDER! And you want to hand over complex tax returns that the 99% won’t understand?! Obama has a record of digging until he finds non-dirt on his opponents, then he twists it around and makes it look like dirt, and the sheeple, useful idiots buy it. It would be like handing your innocent 15 year old daughter over to a pimp who promised to “take good care of her”. Even though the literal words he speaks sound like a positive thing, he has nothing but ill intentions for your precious daughter.

It’s completely asinine to assume that he’s not turning them over because he has something to hide. He’s protecting his innocence from the evil doings of the corrupt evil doers in Obama’s campaign. And I completely respect him for it, and so should all of us. Stand up to the bullies, and make our own rules, without playing into their ridiculous games.
