Americans, according to a Winston Churchill quote of uncertain provenance, always do the right thing after they've exhausted all other possibilities. More verifiably, Sir Winston, upon being asked if he had any criticism of the United States, replied tersely: "Toilet paper too thin, newspapers too fat."
But that was then. Today, America is a land of two-ply toilet paper and one-ply newspapers. Being made of sterner stuff than Churchill's posterior, the eco-left want to ban two-ply bathroom tissue on environmental grounds, which would devastate the economy of Canada, whence comes most American bathroom tissue, at least until the Canadians, being the House of Saud of toilet paper, start shipping it to China, as they're now doing with their oil ever since Obama told them to go lay pipe somewhere else.

Best Steyn article I’ve seen in a while... he’s hitting on all cylinders with this one.....must read....
Mark Steyn + Orange County Register = Polished but Unvarnished Truth
Spot on. I had to stop reading because I was laughing so much. But this passage really takes the cake:
“History does not record whether Princip embarked on his mission with 15 pieces of Wienerschnitzel or Sachertorte in his backpack, but he changed the course of history. Perhaps Floyd Corkins had similar dreams: He would be the flamer that lit the fuse to liberate a continent from the oppressiveness of homophobic waffle fries.”
Not many people could pull off that comparison so eloquently.
Winnie’s quote crossed my mind earlier this afternoon when I finally stumbled upon the right way to connect the cross members of a Staples office guest chair I was assembling.
We Americans may take a little longer, but our gears grind exceedingly fine. Or something.
Racist!!!
So, like, at what point does someone acknowledge that this is actually economic warfare?
That the entire POINT of the Rat's "economic plan" is to, in fact, destroy the economy?
Or do they just get a free ride forever by constantly claiming they're doing the best they can, and so nobody can suggest that maybe - just maybe - the results we see around us ARE the results they planned to get all along?
In other words, how slow makes it okay? If I try to shoot you, you get to defend yourself. But what if I take the Democrat route? What if I just slowly walk towards you with a big bag of foam, and keep walking as you slowly smother, while I keep doing "everything I can" to help you breathe?
Does that make it okay? Does that mean I didn't kill you on purpose?
Loved everything, as usual, but only up to the last sentence.
Yes, Mark, this IS about gay marriage and free contraception (and abortion and sterilization), whatever else it’s about. SANITY matters; common sense matters; natural law matters. To use that tired academic phrase, they’re all—economics, politics, foreign policy, domestic policy, education, law, freedom, and all the rest—are “of a piece.” Sensible solutions rely on sound ethical principles, period.
Feel your pain. Of course, some of this applies to Ryan’s plan. All I can offer (reluctantly) is that you’ve got to crawl before you can walk. And his plan is just one knee in front of the other. That doesn’t mean newer plans can’t be more aggressive.
Breathtaking writing, with Jonathan Swift-level satire and sarcasm. The best writers on the left would dry up and blow away in his mere presence.
Your post has a certain je ne sais quoi that I couldn’t quite put my finger on.
Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!
