Over at Ricochet, Paul Rahe writes How Hatred Became a Liberal Value. His piece is well worth a read (I particularly liked his reminders of liberal calls for civility and the hate is not a family value bumper stickers so popular a decade or so ago), but Ive got my own idea: no diversity. The heartland of American leftism is less intellectually diverse than any large conservative community in the United States. The entire cities of New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. are less politically diverse than your average Evangelical megachurch.
It is a truism of American life that unless a conservative turns off all technology, grabs a gun and a dog, and heads for the hills, he will be exposed to an avalanche of liberal thought and ideas in education, television, movies, and the Internet. Liberals, by contrast, can and often do live lives isolated from conservative thought, and their ignorance of our ideas is starting to show.
I was first exposed to liberal ignorance of conservatism way back in 1991. I was a new law student and had just walked out of a class with my ears still ringing from the boos, hisses, and jeers at my conservative arguments. A classmate came up to me and said, I wish theyd let you speak. Id never heard anything like what you were saying and wanted to hear more.
I was shocked. I was merely making a standard conservative argument breaking no new ideological ground. Youve never heard an argument like that? Where did you go to college?
Princeton.
Some liberal once told me: Ignorance breeds hate. I couldnt agree

Is David French related to Doug French at the Ludwig von Mises Insitute?
Liberals love diversity, except when it comes to political views. Any perspectives that are contrary to theirs are quickly dismissed and usually labeled as “extreme”. The liberal dominated American classroom is the most intolerant and inhospitable environment of all.
Liberals have perfected the art of projection.
Does anyone know what the site Richochet is? When I clicked through the NRO link to get the original article, it just lead me to a sign-up page. I don’t want to sign up...
Left is comprised of cults rigidly segregated, when forced to mingle with one another there are elaborate rules of PC. Beyond that the left is a hollow man kept alive by the Right half of the spectrum telling us boogey man stories, our Berlin Wall, one week they shoot you for looking at approaching it, the next week people are standing on it breaking it down with picks.
Modern talk radio was just taking off at that time. President Reagan cancelled the FCC "Fairness Doctrine" in 1987 and free speech was restored for conservatives.
The most oft-heard comment on talk radio at that time was a variation of "Id never heard anything like what you were saying and wanted to hear more. It went something like "I never knew others believed as I believe. You all are saying what I'm thinking!"
We must defend our free speech against domestic enemies the way we defend it against foreign enemies.. with blood. Their blood, our free speech.
We didn’t first get the internet until ‘99. My best friend was a homeschool mom and I was fascinated by her results. Her kids were wonderful. After I got past the initial questions (is it legal? where do you get the materials?) I was rarin’ to go.
The same friend sold me her old computer and taught me how to use it.
I began to research homeschool information and my first surprise was how vehemently some people hated the concept. I couldn’t believe that there were people who actually wanted to outlaw the practice.
That started my delve into conservatism. I stumbled onto FR by accident while doing this research. This led me to warroom.com, Rush and Mark Levin.
Guys, this was the first time I’d ever heard the conservative argument and I was thrilled. So many of these thoughts I’d had myself, but I didn’t dare voice them. And here were people shamelessly talking about personal responsibility, the nanny state, how welfare encourages irresponsible behavior, Natural Law, how our rights came from G-d, etc OUT LOUD!
I felt so subversive.
It should be noted that this is specifically limited to the white subset of this group, for obvious reasons.
The left is either entirely Godless, or they see government as God's incarnation on Earth. Thus, they worship government in the same way many Christians worship Jesus.
When you declare big government to be a source of evil rather than good, then you've attacked their God. You are a heretic to be silenced or destroyed rather than someone to be reasoned with.
Christianity went through its own intolerant phase during the middle ages - think of the Spanish Inquisition. Through God's grace Christianity purged itself of its Ungodly human leaders, matured, and grew out of that dark time. By whose grace will the left grow out of theirs?
Me too, except I found him on TV while channel surfing late one night.
Rush is the best for one simple reason. He's the best critical thinker of all the radio talk show hosts. His ability to dissect arguments and events to get to their root arguments and causes is almost certainly the product of all those dinner table discussions he talks about having with his parents.
I urge parents to do the same with their kids. Talk to them - often. Don't preach - argue, dissect. Teach them to dissect arguments by exploring the assumptions they're based on. If we do that as a nation, we could defeat socialism in one generation. Liberals fight by preaching and churning up hate - conservatives will win with dispassionate logic and wisdom.
I would only change one thing. It needs to be passionate. No one will pay attention if you're not passionate. Ask Rush.

For later.....
