The Arizona Supreme Court on Friday upheld a state law that requires elected officials to be able to read, write and speak the English language.

More common sense coming out of Arizona. I hope it’s a trend.
Flying home Wednesday from NYC. Sat on the emergency exit aisle. Have to give verbal confirmation that you understand the instructions and are willing to stay in that seat in English. One woman said “speak some English.” She sounded French. The all business stewardess went back and found a big guy with an American flag t-shirt to change places with her. Yay!!!!!!
Spanish is a beautiful language and spoken by many in Arizona however....Arizona is part of America and in America the official language is English. So for safety and the safety of families living in the state of Arizona, speaking English is very important, it could save a life. I might add how can a person make a knowledgeable vote if they can’t read or speak English....we do have here in AZ several congressmen who think they live in Mexico thereby misleading their constituents with their other-than-American stance and rants.
It will be if we can keep Zero and the ACLU from suing us for trying to be an American state
Believe it or not, I have had a flight where a one-armed person insisted they could handle the emergency exit. (They CAN”T) I wasn’t the flight atendant who had to address the situation but the person ended up being moved to another seat. (The emergency exit over the wings requires TWO hands, one to open the handle and the other to reach over and pull the exit into the plane in one motion.)
And, yes, people who may not understand English commands- EVACUATE EVACUATE EVACUATE- FIRE ON LEFT SIDE OF AIRCRAFT- DO NOT EXIT- cannot be in charge of the lives of others whose only exit may be the one where the foreigner is sitting.
Also, teenagers and younger cannot be seated there and I have had families SCREAM that their child can handle the exit and that they REFUSE to move unless they can all be seated together. “Of course, please follow me” to the back of the plane where the last row of people is very glad to change places where there is more leg room and the seats actually recline.
Actually - there is one part of this statement that isn’t true. English is NOT the official language of the US. To my knowledge, we don’t have such a declaration. We should!
Ridiculous there was even a lawsuit about this.
“in America the official language is English.”
Nope. No such designation. I won many a bar bets.
Wonder if she is an illegal which means she should never be able to run for office.
HEAR, HEAR!
In Texas, our governor and his Lt. Governor (the one that Cruz defeated) would be side-by-side with this lady, trying to show that ILLEGALS are just as worthy to hold office as US citizens.
Kudos to Arizona...
IIRC, India has English as their official language.
We’re in rabid agreement here ;-)
