“They’ll turn us all into beggars ‘cause they’re easier to please.” So goes a Rainmakers song. Beggars also are easier to control. Just ask the drug dealer. It is not compassion that motivates him to give away the first hits of heroin for free; it is the promise of control.
President Obama wants to give you free stuff. Lots and lots of free stuff. At least, he’d like you to believe it’s free. Free health care. Free welfare checks. Free food stamps. But as the saying goes, free stuff or freedom: Choose one.
As any teenager knows, you don’t escape mom and dad’s rules until you pay your own bills. Some say our overbearing government is similarly paternalistic, which is insulting enough but simply untrue. Good parents prepare their children for independence, whereas Mr. Obama wants to increase Americans’ dependence on his government.
Consider the pernicious nature of Mr. Obama’s deeply rooted hostility toward individual achievement: “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.” A rationale for confiscatory taxes? Certainly, but it’s so much worse.
Mr. Obama’s notion that government, rather than people, creates prosperity is not only an insult to every hardworking American, it is the subversion of the individual. If your success is the result of someone else, then you are nothing more than an expendable cog in the wheel. On a fundamental level, you no longer bring value to society other than taking up the space government provides you. So long as your rulers build roads and public schools, Mr. Obama claimed, you could be replaced.
As antithetical as this is to the American ideal — and to common sense...

Freedom comes from hard work and the determination to be FREE. Freedom will never come from the government or any government agency. Government = NOT Freedom. Government = submission!

if you make someone dependent on you... you are the one that pulls the strings. That is what this guy is tryin’ to do. Come Novemeber election day will turn this all around and we will take back our grand and glorious country back.
People will once again be happy and not miserable. They will treat each other with respect and not hate. This country would be just fine and the people would get along if the government would just stay the hell out of all our lives. States take care of states. People take care of people. People who are able should WORK! Who ever heard of paying checks to people who do nothing to earn them? That’s sinful.
Yes, giving things away makes people dependent and that is not a good thing unless you like being told what to eat, how to eat it, what to wear how to wear it and on and on. I don’t and won’t. This is America and my vote will count on election day. American has been awakened!!!

Mao’s Great Leap Forward probably killed over 40 million people, most by famine, but a few million murdered directly by the government.
Amazingly precient given the album was released in the mid-1980s. They were always one of my favorite bands, and it didn't hurt that there was some local pride when I played their music to anyone who would listen (and invariably loved it) while I was at school in NY. For some reason, they faded here, but found their greated success in Scandinavia and Norway.
BTW, if you're from the KC area, you might remember "The Rainmakers," or their earlier incarnation, that played around KC & Lawrence, KS (KU) as "Steve, Bob, & Rich."

All estimates of the death toll caused by Communism in it's various incarnations are very, very conservative low end estimates that totally beyond dispute .
The reason for this is that the Fellow Travelers who are historians intimidate their fellow historians to beat down the death toll to low ball estimates even the Fellow Travelers can no longer deny.
There's nothing more expensive than free stuff.
