When Jesus told us to "daily take up your cross and follow Me," He implied that it would not be easy, in fact when He used the term "cross," He was letting His followers know that there was a price that would be exacted.
Right now in the U.S. that price of following Christ is not one's life, except in extreme cases. I do believe that we will be forced to make that choice in the future, in fact, I believe we can count on it, at least that is what biblical scholars tell us.
When I was much younger and Christainity seemed to rarely be thought of as "radical, extreme, mean or hateful" as they are now, I only thought torturing Christians for their beliefs happened in the First Century. Now, I can envision it happening in my own lifetime.
My reading of scriptures seem to strongly spell out that there will be costs for standing for the teachings of Christ and this policeman's story bear witness of that fact.
It may happen some day that we may have to suffer for our faith but today we can use our God given and Consitutional given rights to fight tooth and nail for what is rightfully ours. This isn’t turn the other cheek time, it is time to take a strong stand.
