indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all.

The “fog of war” is amazing..one reads the MoH citatation in awe, yet it’s hard not to wonder how a guy could win the MoH, suffer severe wounds, yet NOT get promoted at least one grade. It would have made a difference in his disability pension..there wasn’t ONE general around who could have promoted him to Captain?
We need a whole new breed of Heroes for times such as these. While most don’t see the kids of today as able, things will change and we will have a new breed to take over.
Please thank StarCMC for todays thread.

The FR Canteen is Free Republic's longest running daily thread
specifically designed to provide entertainment and moral support for the military.
The doors have been open since Oct 7 2001,
the day of the start of the war in Afghanistan.
We are indebted to you for your sacrifices for our Freedom.
Most of us look to friends and colleagues for rewards: a slap on the back, a heros medal, applause, a sincere compliment. But according to Jesus, the more important rewards await us after death. Its possible that the most significant human acts of all are carried out in secret, seen by no one but God. In a nutshell, the message of the kingdom is this: Live for God and not other people.
As Jesus explained it, we are accumulating a kind of savings account, storing up treasures in heaven (Matt. 6:20) rather than on earthtreasures so great that they will compensate for any amount of suffering. The Old Testament has dropped a few scant hints about an afterlife, but Jesus spoke plainly about a place where the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father (Matt. 13:43).
In their quest for a kingdom, the Jews of Jesus day had been looking for signs of Gods approval in this life, primarily through prosperity and political power. Beginning with this speech, Jesus changed the focus to the life to come (ch.6). He discounted success in this visible world. Invest in the future life, He cautioned. After all, rust, a thief, or a lowly insect can destroy all else that we accumulate (v.20).

Hi Everybody!
(((HUGS)))
Thanks, Galz, for another wonderful story of one of my heroes! God bless them all!
Years ago, I drove a gal-pal from Kalifornia to her parents' place in Sallisaw, as I was continuing on to visit old USMC buddies in Illinois.
....Spent a delightful day there with her dad showing me his cockfighting operation. Kinda weird, but kinda fun -- but that area of eastern Oklahoma sure was beautiful.
Good evening Kathy! ((HUGS!)) Thank you so very much for letting us know about another great American Hero!

Yes, it's true, we're having rain.
We've actually had it off and on over the weekend.
It's most welcomed.
I'm almost tempted to go for a long walk in it
except I don't want my mascara to run...hehe.
I just hope it doesn't make traffic a nightmare going home.
But please stay right where you are.
Chat up the military or a family member.
No need to fret...you know I'll be back!
The FR Canteen is
Come in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea,

and plain old BS
