It's just one more instance where union labor has managed to price itself out of work, to the happy benefit of others who have avoided doing so.

In addition, there is scads of make-work and feather-bedding. Typically, on a union stage, only a gaffer can plug an electrical cord into the wall or move a light. Only a grip can handle the apple boxes, etc., etc., etc.

And, if you go on location with a child, there's an extra bus-load of people to attend to the kid.

Shooting commercials in Hollywood became very tiresome...and very expensive. Which is why we did most of our work in Texas...

Can they come to Austin and take all the liberal idiots away from here too?

Our production company is in the same boat in Hollywood. But no matter where you go, those scumbag Teamsters have a chokehold on the production crews and they just don’t allow anyone to buck the system.

My bud worked on the set of FALLING SKIES. Toronto was not cheap enough for tax incentives so the producers went to Vancouver as BC knows how to lure American producers

I heard about that on the local AM talk a few weeks back. A scam in a lot of respects apparently.

If they have no bread, let them become Scuba instructors.

I believe the fifth broadcast network is the CW Network. Their programs include Nikita, Hart of Dixie, America’s Next Top Model, Supernatural, Ringer, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, The Secret Cirle and others.

We don’t have teamsters and other union types here in my part of the world but something almost as bad.

In the realm of the good paying freelance production gigs there is a governing clique for lack of a better way to describe it. If you aren’t in with them like 99% of the commoners, try all you like but you will never get in.

Me and a few of the other capable commoners realized that ages ago. A lot of the others believed if they killed themselves that much more that they would be welcomed in. From what I have heard since I left a few years back, nothing has changed. The clique group is essentially unchanged.

I picked up IT and moved on and on the whole did better and treated better. While I was going to school for it on my own scarce dimes, I became more of an outcast except when something imporant needed doing. I still get a small paying gig in photography or rare videography plus I produce some stock video and photo that can bring a few bucks in.

Another one who is still there for however long it lasts does a lot of yard and lightlandscaping. He puts in the hours but does fairly well at it. I will hire him from time to time when my yard needs it.

Sure doesn’t feel like that around here......seems every other week there are road or bridge closures due to filming.
