State police, in wake of an uptick in gun violence that has most recently taken the life of a 29-year-old city man who was shot in the head Friday during a home invasion in the Forest Park neighborhood, have agreed to step up patrols here.
I would like to see the CAT team in here more regularly so we can quell this, Mayor Domenic J. Sarno said
Sarno said he met with Commissioner William J. Fitchet Monday morning to discuss the seeking of enhanced state police support to help combat the gun violence that has taken two lives and injured others since Aug. 11.
We have a great relationship with the state police, we work very well together, said Sarno, regarding the deployment of a 10-member state trooper detail known as the Community Action Team.
State Police Maj. Barry OBrien, commander of Troop B, since contacted by Fitchet, agreed to provide the extra patrols.
OBrien said Monday afternoon that the enhanced patrols, which are not new to the city, will remain in place as needed.
We will have out CAT team out there, OBrien said.
A typical night may see some four to five extra patrols and some nights may see as many as eight or ten, OBrien said.

Full title: Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno asks state police to step up patrols in effort to quell uptick of gun violence
How sad that the people charged with protecting the public are unwilling to identify the actual root of the problem.
Springfield is a hellhole.
I read the full article several times.
I still am not sure if the deceased they refer to was the
homeowner whose residence was invaded, or if the
deceased was one of the invaders.
Considering the location, I get the feeling they are trying
very, very hard not to mention that a defensive gun was
used.
Anybody know for sure what actually happened?
It’s absurd when these liberals call it “gun violence” instead of calling the situation by it’s proper term “gang violence.”
Yet another in a long line of clueless Liberals who don’t grasp the essential fact that gun violence isn’t about gun ownership.
It’s about the sort of Liberal programs that have all but eliminated even the pretence of responsible living for which those same Liberal programs are largely to blame.
It used to be the “City of Homes”, is it now the “City of Homee’s”? what a shame. I was their during the turn-around in the 80’s what a neat city it was, not anymore, I was their a month ago and it is almost as bad as Detroit....
Doesn’t he have his own police force?
