Via the Examiner, a golden moment from Morning Joe in which McCaskill walks the vanishingly fine line between being deeply offended at the thought of Akin representing Missouri and yet not so deeply offended that shed want to see him disqualify himself immediately. If youre depressed by all the Akin coverage today, let this thought comfort you: The Democrats worked very hard, and spent a lot of money, to make sure he was her opponent in November. They banked on him screwing up spectacularly, and now he has so spectacularly and so soon, in fact, that this might blow up right in their faces by landing a steadier, sturdier Republican candidate on the ballot in his place.
Oops:
In the weeks before the August 7 primary, McCaskill and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee aired ads that ostensibly attacked Akin, but actually boosted his candidacy. The ads called said him a true conservative and questioned if he was too conservative, hardly a negative in a GOP primary. One radio ad ended by noting that Akin has been endorsed by the most conservative leaders in our country: Michele Bachmann and Mike Huckabee.
McCaskill did air ads against all the Republicans in the race, but only the Akin ones included such glowing testimonials. With a wink and a nod, Democrats placed their bets that the conservative congressman would be her weakest foe in the fall, even if theyre never publicly acknowledged it.
According to WaPo, the combined $1.5 million that McCaskills campaign and Democratic groups spent in the last weeks before the primary attacking Akin as a true conservative was more money than his own team spent on ads over the course of the entire campaign.

Bingo. Sorry, I already used my "Nailed it" photo. I'm taking a lot of flames from people who think what Akin said was not bad enough for him to be tossed, and we should relax our standards for political expediency.
Either we apply the standards to our own people first and harshest, or we have no standards at all.
Idiot Rush Limbaugh? You could not be more wrong. If Talent lost, he did it on his own.
Horsepucky.
Rush has caused no one to lose!
One thing in abundance during this caper has been the number of chickensh*t cowards claiming to be pragmatic conservatives. Time to go on offense.
BTW: the lacrosse players rape of the slut was not a “legitimate rape”
Heck, it wasn't even "penetration." That was her boyfriends' (plural on purpose) jobs.
He was heard to reply, "That's no kin amine..."
So, some talk about a Hollywood liberal caused a politician to lose his seat? You are really searching for something, but you don’t know what it is.
And you thought the party elitists would write Steelman or Brunner in??? They disdain them almost as they do Akin. I think you are beginning to get the picture though.
Sigh. Akin is a repeat of the disaster in Colorado in 2010, when that Tea Party favorite fool Ken Buck lost a sure Senate pickup against a weak candidate and a Democrat party divided by a vicious primary.
Buck simply could NOT keep his size 12 cowboy boots out of his pie hole. Every time they got yanked out, why they instantly got sucked back in, as if boot and mouth were the opposite polls of a powerful magnet.
Buck clearly wouldnt listen to his advisers, he could not stay on message, and he thought he was smarter than the press (which he wasnt). Completely infuriating. I could have done better than Buck.
Buck at least had an excuse though: hed never run for office beyond Weld County District Attorney. No such excuse for Akin.
Almost any Republican can win a contest in this country if the electorate isnt completely dominated by leftist Progressives. Scott Brown in Massachusetts demonstrated that. Brown stayed on message. He had five talking points and never, ever deviated from them. No matter what question was asked, he answered with one or more of his five talking points. Not a single gaff or gotcha was incurred from Brown. Now really, how difficult is that strategy? Just sit in a room and practice that strategy with some pretend-reporters until you can do that in your sleep. Once you have that down pat, youll win your election.
Well who exactly gets to make the decision on who replaces him on the ballot? What is the procedure? Conservative Missourians and Tea Party folks need to make their voices known to the Missouri GOP that they will not allow the seat to be hijacked by the rino elite. We can certainly raise a big stink about it and I suggest we do.
The First Amendment to the Constitution still stands. Do not people see? The stock in trade of the liberals, Democrats et al, is to trumpet and thunder about some simple statement. Now that statement may be ill advised. The whole filthy machinery of the MSM then moves into gear. They feign some sort of incredible outrage.
Good sensible people then fall for the whole tactic. With a bit of luck it will fizzle out. For all of us in the English speaking world, the future of America is at stake. Possibly other nations too will be affected. Tiz, the question of whether Governor Romney will defeat President Obama.
(I had such a quiet day today- until now).
The elitists in the Missouri Republican Party.
Conservative Missourians and Tea Party folks need to make their voices known to the Missouri GOP that they will not allow the seat to be hijacked by the rino elite.
Too late. This is all going according to plan. Months back the Danforth wing expressed disdain for the three running and wanted them all to step aside for their chosen one -- Tom Schweich [at the time]. They want someone who they can control and Akin, Steelman, and Brunner were too independent, too conservative, and too prolife for their tastes.
We can certainly raise a big stink about it and I suggest we do.
They don't care. They figure that McCaskill is so disliked that they will vote for anybody but her. So this gives them the chance to crown their own handpicked Senator who will be beholden to them rather than the people.
A lot of naive people here have fallen for their scheme.
and his comment was really obtuse but not worse than “you didn’t build that” just shows a basic ignorance of female biology
So you think there was a scheme for Akin to say something incredibly stupid? I don’t think so, but I certainly can see the R establishment trying to take advantage of it. I don’t think they will get away with it though especially if the TP and Steelman and Brunner make some major noise.
The GOP elitists don't want anyone in that Senate seat that they cannot control and Akin, Steelman, Brunner are too independent to control.
Check my tagline. Akin will win this race without breaking a sweat if the RINO’S would just STFU.
McCaskill defeated Talent last time around.
