I’d hate to imagine what the doctor has told him in regards to a shorter life span from all that smoking

oh please....don't somke, don't eat eggs, don't eat sugar,don't do any thing to enjoy life and you'll die at the same instant that you were destined to die in the first place.....People get hit by lightning....whatever

I should remind you that a huge fraction of the people passing away from the 1970's on often died from the effects of smoking WAY too many cigarettes. Remember, during World War II, the tobacco companies gave away a HUGE amount of unfiltered cigarettes to members of our armed forces around the world or sold them at very cheap prices at overseas bases, and as such got the entire World War II generation hooked on cigarettes after this war ended.
