Akin Must Pull Out!
Dick Morris.com ^ | August 21,2012 | Dick Morris

Posted on 08/21/2012 11:21:46 AM PDT by Hojczyk

The Republican Party threw away a Senate seat in Delaware in 2010 when it nominated Christine O’Donnell for the Senate. Her comments about witchcraft made her unelectable. Now, with the balance of power in the Senate — and the fate of America — dependent on our ability to win the Senate this year, Missouri Republican candidate Todd Akin (who just narrowly won his primary with 36% of the vote in a three way race) has similarly disqualified himself with his absurd contention that pregnancy after rape is “rare” because, somehow, women’s bodies “shut it down” in cases of “legitimate rape.”

Apart from the ridiculous nature of his contention and his insensitivity in making it public, lies the fact that Claire McCaskill will make hay of it and likely get re-elected because of it. Her seat was very vulnerable before Akin spouted off. She was trailing Akin by nine points, the largest margin of Republican lead over a Democratic incumbent Senator in the country.

Akin must not throw away this seat in a monumental act of ego. He has until 5 PM on Tuesday (today) to withdraw. If he does so, likely Sarah Steelman, who narrowly lost to him, will be the nominee. Sarah, endorsed by Sarah Palin, could beat McCaskill woman-against-woman and we could survive Akin’s remarks.

My Missouri friends are hot at what the gop-e is trying to do.

Is that right? So your Missouri friends are all hot and bothered about the GOP-E, but apparently not concerned that ole' Claire McCaskill and the Missouri Democratic party funneled about 2 million bucks in to the GOP primary in order to help Akin win.

The Democrats knew this guy would implode, so they went all out to support him in our primaries. And when Akin blew up his campaign with a day or two left to replace him, the Democratic polling firm PPP ran a push poll with an R+9 sample (probably the only R+ sample PPP has ever found) to show Akin was still up by 1.

Maybe you should tell your friends who are all bothered by the GOP-E to take a closer look at the candidates they support and maybe ask themselves why the Democratic Party is pouring money in to support them. Akin is a disaster and he is going to lose. It isn't just the GOP-E who wants him out before it is too late, it's pretty much everyone with a lick of sense.

Exactly - people are putting egos ahead of the fact that we HAVE to repeal Obamacare.

People are busy pointing to a gazillion examples of dirty deeds done by democrats - and they are right.

But again...we have to defeat Obamacare.

Still harping on Christine O’Donnell. O’Donnell performed a great public service: she prevented Mike Castle from becoming a senator. For that, we thank her.

As a pro-lifer - I am angry that now “we” are seen as being a bunch of ignorant-of-basic-biology knuckledraggers.

Christine O'Donnell got rid of RINO Mike Castle. She may have lost the seat but... she got rid of Mike Castle!

Thank you, Christine!

Bite me, Dick!

It befuddles me how the fear of one old Clair snake can stampede those spineless pachyderms.

The Dems would have rallies around one of theirs and attacked the other side for being responsible for the misstatement. But, true to form the GOP wants purity and stampedes.

Romney has said worse things about abortion, repeatedly and wihout apology.
Just incase anyone still cared.

Betcha whatever Mitt said about abortion was, at the very least, anatomically correct.

You're a liar. An out and out liar.

You cut and paste the same comments on different threads.

The Missouri GOP is not mad at who you say they are. I have a history with the GOP in MO (where I am from) going back over a decade. My friends are currently working their on campaigns, and what you are saying, is a lie.

"Still harping on Christine O’Donnell. O’Donnell performed a great public service: she prevented Mike Castle from becoming a senator. For that, we thank her."

Christine O'Donnell was an idiot that was not properly vetted by the TEA Party. They got behind her because she said the right things, but never really checked into her background. As for your contention above, I'm sorry, but I can not see how electing a democrat to the senate instead of someone who would have voted against Obamacare and helped keep a filubuster alive, is a great service. There are so many "conservatives" on Free Republic that seem to think its better to have a Obama or some other leftwing looneytune in office than someone who doesn't meet their personal definition of conservative. I'll never understand that mentality.

Misstatement? It was an accurate window into his blatant ignorance.

“but I can not see how electing a democrat to the senate instead of someone who would have voted against Obamacare and helped keep a filubuster alive, is a great service.”

Because Castle was a democrat too, whatever he called himself. There’s now a democrat in the seat we can be against instead of a democrat we have to defend. He would have turned as surely as Jim Jeffords and Arlen Specter did.

Why should anyone care what Dick Morris has to say?

Remember Dick Morris?
Political Consultant in Arkansas & D.C.?
BFF with Bubba & Hillary?

Dick Morris?
The man who denied (later admitted) paying a prostitute to suck her toes?

Yes, he has hurt pro-lifers, especially those who seek public office. The voters cannot be sure whether or not they view their candidacies as ordained by God and divined by Providence. So they view themselves as exempt from the consequences of their words and actions. They’re on a “mission from God” and that’s all there is to it. Everybody else can just get lost.

Lots of freepers were unfortunately too blind to see that, as well.

And if the RINOs in DE had not voted for the self-avowed Marxist, COD would be a Senator today. Hope the RINOs are happy with their choice.

It’ll make it that much easier to F themselves when they ask me to hold my nose in November.

That’s an interesting take on it.

I’ve always thought many men really do think women’s internal organs are a mystery that they do not care to learn about.

And that isn’t, in itself, necessarily a terrible thing.

It IS a terrible thing if you allow it to trip you up so badly that you endanger the entire country with this thing called Obamacare.
