Rep Steve King (R-Iowa) jumped into the "legitimate rape" fray Tuesday by telling a local reporter that he doesn't personally know of any victims of statutory rape or incest who became pregnant from the attacks.
The reporter asked King about a bill he put forward last year that would have barred federal Medicaid funds from going towards abortions except when the life of the mother is in danger or in the case of "forcible rape." (The current law just makes an exception for "rape," without the forcible part.) The new terminology would most likely prevent people who become pregnant from incest or statutory rape--when an adult has sex with someone under the age of consent--from accessing Medicaid-funded abortions. King told the reporter he didn't know of anyone who had become pregnant under those circumstances.
"Well I just haven't heard of that being a circumstance that's been brought to me in any personal way, and I'd be open to discussion about that subject matter," he said. (Talking Points Memo points to a 1996 Guttmacher Institute study that found that half of all pregnancies among minors were fathered by adult men.)

This is beyond stupid.
Wasn’t there that dad in germany that kept his daughter hidden for years and fathered his own grandchildren.
Either way this R-Iowa should STFU
Yep. Stupid is as stupid does. Our congressman may sink this whole election. Do these people learn nothing from the Angle loss. It is all about message discipline. If Angle had kept on message, we would no longer have a Senator Reid.
King is going to help get Akin elected to the Senate. This is a BRILLIANT move by patriotic Rep King. God Bless you Rep. Steve King and Rep Todd Akin....Thank God for you both in the political World. Wish more were like you.
because they probably got lucky and didn’t get pregnant or got unlucky and got an abortion.
What in the @#($*& is wrong with these morons?
Shut your pieholes you ignorant wastes of space and taxpayer money.
Sweet baby Moses, this is beyond amazing.
Statutory rape victims are Planned Parenthood’s bread and butter.
Debt! Debt! Debt!
Deficit! Deficit! Deficit!
ObamaCare! ObamaCare! ObamaCare!
Foreign Affairs! Foreign Affairs! Foreign Affairs!
Else: STFU !!
Oh, good grief. Does he not know what statutory rape is, or does he not know how pregnancy happens?
Shut up already.
SnakeDoc
I fail to see how Rep. King proving he’s an idiot helps out Rep. Akin (who has already done so).
I am starting to feel like people are getting paid off here to throw the election. We literally had Obama cornered 48 hours ago and now all of a sudden we are giving Democrats and Obama the Fluke gift all over again and the media at least 2 months of discussions on a fake war on women.
Stupid m-f’ing Republican IDIOTS can’t keep their mouths shut and let Biden/Obama and the rest of the Marxist Dems cut their own throats.
We just lost all that we had on Biden’s “gaffes” with these 2 idiots. STFU!!!!!!!
I guess Rep. King forget about the saying involving holes. Good Gawd. All this crap because the Pro-Life purists have to dance around the fact that most Americans want women to be allowed access to abortion if they are raped.
Once more for emphasis.
Unbelievable!!!!!!
There is nothing brilliant about it. It’s a media war...it is always a media war...don’t you get it? Are you that ignorant to think that principles matter at a time like this in politics? We are fighting for the country’s life here and you want to give this f-cking idiot an “atta boy!”?
sigh.....sadly I’ve been seeing this same ignorance of the female reproductive system on the Akin threads here the last 2 days.
Unbelievable.
We’re just going to hand it all right over to the enemy.
“Wasnt there that dad in germany that kept his daughter hidden for years and fathered his own grandchildren.”
Josef Fritzl was from Austria.
Straight-up headline lie.
I agree that they should concentrate on jobs and the economy, but relax, this is late August, everybody but we political junkies are on vacation or getting ready for labor day, nobody is paying attention. By the time the conventions are over and people start paying attention, nobody will remember what Akin or King (or even Biden for that matter) said in August.
Good grief can these idiots just shut up. They are sounding like Joe Biden.
THANK YOU!!!
Yes. I can think of several local cases where statutory rape resulted in pregnancy.
This is one reason Planned Parenthood lost funding - they got caught covering up for the rapists.
Lol..you are so bad. Guess we might as well laugh...sure beats weeping.
They quoted two words in the headline then changed the rest. I too have never personally met anyone who was pregnant by rape or statutory rape. Sorry, but it's true. I'm not saying it doesn't or didn't happen, but they totally made up the headline and story based on what they want people to think he said.
Isn't that unlawful carnal knowledge of a statue?
Re; I am starting to feel like people are getting paid off here to throw the election.
Any way to see if he has a Swiss bank account that had a sudden large deposit and also see if there is one for john roberts too
Why is everyone freaking out over Akin’s or King’s comments? Perhaps there IS a biological mechanism which deters raped women from getting pregnant! Can’t anyone SAY anything anymore without having their careers ended? We have a President whose ACTIONS should end his career but we seem to care more about WORDS spoken by a politician. The SPEECH POLICE are everywhere.. this is ridiculous!
Of course they did and the bed wetters jumped right on it.
Folks, we have the enemy inside the wire. Evil or insane, they're going to get us all killed. Literally.
“A statute is a formal written enactment of a legislative authority that governs a state, city, or county. Typically, statutes command or prohibit something, or declare policy.”
Statutory Rape is therefore what Congress does to us each and every day.
BIMBOGATE!!!!!!!!!!!!
WTF is WRONG withh these idiots!!!!!!
You are correct.
“I am starting to feel like people are getting paid off here to throw the election.”
It’s certainly interesting that Akin’s gaffe dovetails so nicely with such an important prong (”war on women”) of Obama’s campaign strategy.
It is not about splitting words here...it’s about shutting the f-ck up and not talking about it at all...give NO AMMO to the media or the left. AT ALL...ZERO...NOTHING. NO COMMENTS.

Yep, stupidity, like misery, loves company.
Agreed... I think it was a a misstep in the Aiken's camp. However, I have heard about it (the body's defense in situations of Rape), but I'm not say it is true.
Now, Todd, please drop out for the sake of CONSERVATIVES everywhere. if you do, you might run to be a senator again, but if you run NOW and lose, you will never be forgiven.
“I am starting to feel like people are getting paid off here to throw the election. We literally had Obama cornered 48 hours ago and now all of a sudden we are giving Democrats and Obama the Fluke gift all over again and the media at least 2 months of discussions on a fake war on women.”
No Kidding. At the end of last week the polls were starting to trend in our favor. Now these two stupid goobers open their yaps. And yes, King is an idiot b/c any girl under the age of consent that gets pregnant is a victim of statutory rape by definition.
In the cities, there are more children born to children, than to adult married couples.
We make a distinction because woman CAN AND DO get pregnant when they are rapped and this is 1000X worse than getting punched in the face.
Re; Steve King: Ive never heard of statutory rape victims becoming pregnant.
Does he know how pregnancy occurs??? In general statutory rape is sex between an adult and a minor.
For years i’s been clear that pubbies get into horrible trouble when they let themselves get sucked into talking about the finer details of Christian theology and the finer details of sex. They should always make general, incomprehensible remarks about both and get immediately on to thier strong points. These two areas are clear traps no pubbie should ever step into.
after reading your post I went back to read more carefully.
Question from reporter:
The reporter asked King about a bill he put forward last year that would have barred federal Medicaid funds from going towards abortions except when the life of the mother is in danger or in the case of “forcible rape.”
“”Well I just haven’t heard of that being a circumstance that’s been brought to me in any personal way, and I’d be open to discussion about that subject matter,” he said. “
Can be interpreted 2 ways...the way the lefties have obviously interpreted it....or you could say no one has come to him saying they were denied medicaid funding.
I do believe you are correct Laz
naps, did I miss a sarc tag there?
Unbelievable. Are there really people this stupid in the world? I mean people actually and legitimately think like Akin and King that you can’t get pregnant because of different forms of rape?
I don’t even care if these people believe in 95% of the same things I do it’s utterly terrifying to me that people that stupid are in positions of power.
And the Pulitzer Prize for creative reinterpretation of an extracted quote goes to Yahoo News.
For the New York Times to beat this, they will have to turn a Republican quote on being too young to personally know anyone killed in the Holocaust into an anti-Semetic Holocaust denial through careful use of ellipses.
Stop letting these bastards define the debate...this isn’t about homosexuality and abortion
IT’S THE ECONOMY STUPIDS
Because when the Democrats want to know if the Mars rover is anywhere near where the Apollo astronauts landed, it proves they're incapable of operating government. Because when a Democrat says that there's such a large military presence on an island that it might flip the island over and sink it, it proves they're incapable of operating government. Perhaps there IS a biological mechanism which deters raped women from getting pregnant!
If a candidate cannot puzzle out why that's not even logical, it proves our candidate is incapable of operating government.
Why should the people running the government be unconstrained by logic and allowed to say the most idiotic things imaginable?
