A Flagstaff man opposed to snowmaking at Arizona Snowbowl is attempting to block construction of a reclaimed wastewater pipeline to the ski area by camping in a tree near contractors working on Lowell Observatory property.
James Kennedy installed a wooden platform with tarps and food in the pre-dawn hours of Monday morning.
He is tethered to trees and one piece of idle construction equipment via long ropes, attempting to block construction work and one road into the site.
Disconnecting the ropes or jostling the platform would mean he would likely fall, he said.
"I feel like radical measures are necessary" to stop snowmaking, Kennedy said by phone.
TRESPASSING CHARGES
Lowell plans to pursue trespassing charges against Kennedy, according to Flagstaff police.
They say they will enforce the trespassing violations "once the suspect exits the tree."
The encampment is an attempt to end Snowbowl construction, press the city of Flagstaff to cancel its contract to sell reclaimed wastewater to the ski area, launch more studies on the safety of treated effluent, and persuade President Obama to block construction on a mountain sacred by tribes.
"I do, obviously, expect to get arrested, but I think our biggest intent is drawing attention to the gravity of the situation," Kennedy said.
....The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear an appeal of the snowmaking permit on religious grounds and a federal appeals court has rejected claims that the reclaimed wastewater poses a health threat.
....Kennedy, 26, is a Northern Arizona University student in women's and gender studies and criminal justice.....

Problem solved...
That was easy... ;)
Poison the tree with Round-up/defoliant and tell him that one tree will be poisoned every 5 min until he comes down.
Then do it.
Dont eat the yellow snow!
I could get this bastard down in a blink of an eye.
We have a feller buncher not far from there.
I checked the weather for Flagstaff.
Lightning, thunder...you know.
Just sayin
After the fall,he will be drug. If the fall doesn’t kill him the dragging probably will.
Easy. Just tell him they are going to cut the cables. Cut them....he WILL hold on. Or, just have some fun and launch bottle rockets at him.....that would be fun to watch.
I think this man has fallen out of a few trees already!
I had my diploma before I hit my 22nd birthday.
And it was in a real discipline.
"FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. Protect the Peaks activists say a tree sitters life is in danger as police and equipment cutters are attempting to extract him from a tree, by cutting his life line anchors, today, Tuesday.
Two people locked themselves to the Ponderosa Pine to protect the tree sitter. Their actions are to halt pipeline construction for the Arizona Snowbowl which plans to desecrate sacred San Francisco Peaks with sewage water to make snow for tourists.
Tree sitter James Kennedy said at 11:30 am, "Two supporters, Eric and Alex, have locked down on heavy construction equipment, where my lifeline is anchored. They did this after police and Snowbowl employees alongside Police Chief Treadway said they would attempt a dangerous relocation of my lifeline. I am not harnessed into the platform or tree. any movement will send me falling nearly 80 feet."
At 1 pm today, Protect the Peaks said, "As of five minutes ago, both protesters u-locked to equipment have been extracted and are in custody. No further word on James' lifelines yet."........
That would work. Or an old Clarke or Timberjack skidder with a full set of chains destroying all the trees around him, allowing to ‘savor’ the fear that eventually the guy at the levers will get to him ...eventually ;)
Isn’t that just something....
Drove through there on the way to the Grand Canyon.
Truly beautiful country.
I say timmmmmmmmber!
Shoot him out of the tree with a tranquilizer gun like they do bears. On second though, hold the tranquilizer.
"
Don't go where the pipelines go
And don't you eat that yellow snow
"
Beautiful country and great place to ski. Unfortunately they don’t always have enough snow to open every year. Hope you went through Sedona on your way to the Grand Canyon.
