Todd Akin says he will remain in the race. I am shocked. Clearly he suffers from elephantitus of the ego. According to The Politico, Paul Ryan called Akin and tried to get him to drop out. Maybe Akin thinks that Claire McCaskill is so unpopular that voters will support him anyway. Perhaps he so dislikes primary opponent John Brunner that he’ll risk reelecting McCaskill to keep Brunner out. Admittedly, Brunner is not a great candidate, but he wouldn’t commit a blunder on this scale.

There is hope. Akin has the option of dropping out by September 25, provided that a state judge allows it and he pays to have his name removed from the ballot. You can bet that if it happens, McCaskill and the ‘Rat Party will fight like mad to keep him on the ballot. For the time being, we’re shafted.

I thought he was a reasonable individual who made a very bad mistake.

So Ryan and the entire GOP wants him out, McCaskill wants him in ... and he goes along with what McCaskill wants!?!?

Now I am convinced: He’s a moron.

“Clearly he suffers from elephantitus of the ego.”
Apparently. what’s with these careerist pols that need to be taken out with a crowbar?!? Power must be intoxicating.

Akin: Drop out!

The comments on FreeRepublic seem to be running about 8-to-1 against Akin staying in the race. The few die hards he has left are probably the same freepers who demanded we all "get behind Katherine Harris" in the primary when she was polling 30 points behind Nelson, and accused anyone who questioned her electability of being "Nelson supporter trolls"

I am an outspoken pro-lifer and an unapologetic social conservative, and I think Akin needs to go and is doing enormous damage to us in Missouri (he'll not only jeopardize our chance of winning the Senate nationally, but he might hurt the down ticket races in MO as well). The fact he's a staunch pro-lifer is irrelevant -- both his primary opponents are solid pro-lifers as well, and it's highly unlikely the MO GOP would replace him with anyone who was socially liberal. I want a pro-lifer Senate candidate in MO who doesn't suffer from foot-in-mouth disease.
