Deadline passes: Akin defies calls to drop out

I didn’t listen to his interview on Sean Hannity’s radio show this afternoon but conservative tweeters were rapt. This sounds promising:

jimgeraghty @jimgeraghty

Akin now talking about two world wars, rebuilding our enemies' lands... he's rambling. Incoherent. Nowhere near questions asked.

And here’s something that, coming from most other pols, I’d chalk up to feigned ignorance of a politically inconvenient fact. In this case? Not so sure:

Philip Klein @philipaklein

Akin befuddled when Hannity tells him that PPP poll oversampled Republicans.

According to Geraghty, Hannity ended the segment by saying, “The person who’s going to be happiest with this interview is Claire McCaskill.” You think? I don’t know: Akin’s inner circle seems downright psyched about this glorious opportunity to overcome adversity.

"On the seemingly dire politics of staying in the race, Akin advisers assert, “The truth might work,” referring to what they consider his sincere apology."

"Projecting unusual confidence in the face of so much opposition, advisers even predicted that Akin will be sworn into office in January “stronger having endured and overcome.”

" And they claim he will consider this experience a “blessing,” because Akin would have a new national audience for his grassroots causes and be better able to speak to people who believe the political process has “left them by the side of the road.”

If overcoming this gaffe will leave him a little bit stronger, imagine how much stronger he’ll be after overcoming the inevitable four or five major gaffes still to come. One more thing from the Hannity bit:

Philip Klein @philipaklein

Akin on Romney: "Why couldn't he run his race and I run mine." 21 Aug 12

Not a bad development for Romney to have a guy as radioactive as this suddenly grumbling publicly about him, but I can’t remember the last time the GOP’s presidential nominee and its Senate nominee in a key swing state were publicly on the outs.

An easy pickup now looks doubtful. This election is going to get a lot uglier.

If that stupid sonuvabitch causes B. Hussein to get re-elected, I’ll personally blame him for losing my chance to get an engineering job ever again.

Last deadline is Sept 25th which would take a court filing by Akin.

The Republican Party needs more men like Rep. Akin who are willing to take a strong Pro Life stance and fight the Yellow Bellied RINO’s who want to give in the the MSM and the DNC.

Fine.
He’ll WIN.
That is, iffen he doubles down on the abortion issue, WITH PICTURES, HORRIBLE DISGUSTING PICTURES of the REAL THING in living (that’s DEAD) color. Sickening REAL bloody stuff you can’t BEAR to look at.
Raise them high, and say “I’m against this stuff. Period. THEY are not—Iffen you like it, vote for Barry’s tribe and get LOTS AND LOTS MORE of it.
Talk of the MILLIONS of abortions done on underage girls—who by DEFINITION as underage are victims of REAL RAPE. He’d make the electorate puke—but he would win.

Would take some guts, though.
Thasss a problem with the GOP.

Glenn Beck mentioned a 1970s study about women “shutting down” in the event of rape, so Akin’s long-term memory at least is functioning well.

I know I tend to be a worry wart, but between this idiotic and selfish Akins character and Obama’s constant lead in the poll chart on RealClearPolitics, I fear we are doomed as a nation for yet more Obama after this election. Why people don’t see the danger from a continued Obama presidency and Democratic Senate, I just don’t understand. I hope the situation changes, but people just don’t seem to care about the socialist direction of this country. How depressing.

And he could very well make it happen all by himself. And he doesn’t care.

IMO this is not a game changer whatsoever. Good thing this happened now and not in October. The economy, joblessness, and war in the Middle East will decide this election.

Women get pregnant all the time from rape. To pretend otherwise is being willfully stupid.

They also get Sexually transmitted diseases. I suppose some people think we should withhold treatment for that..

This fool (atkins) is single handily changing the dynamics of the race. The dems want to talk about anything other than the economy and this dope has given them an issue on a silver platter.

Just think of how much damage Obama will do in the next 4 years if reelected.

Good for Aikin.

I’ve changed my mind about this whole thing. The guy screwed up and said something stupid. Big freaking deal. The ignorant chattering class, if they’re paying attention at all, will forget all about this in a few minutes. Meanwhile, there’s over two months until the election and you can count on the scumbag Democrat “mainstream” newsrooms coming up with all kinds of new things to frown and drop their jaws and wag their fingers in outrage about.

I give this guy Aikin kudos for hanging tough. I think he’ll win BECAUSE voters will see he wasn’t cowed by a bunch of Democrat newsrooms and quisling Republicans.

Palin saying Akin should get out. He needs to be discerning and know when to “fold ‘em”.

Palin is advocating for Steelman to run as a 3rd party candidate.

The GOP would be well served by forgetting this issue because its already turning people off.Distance themselves from him and let Akin stand or fall on his own but making it a national issue is a disastrous tactic.
