Sarah Palin endorsed a third-party candidacy against Rep. Todd Akin, R-Mo., if he persists in his refusal to drop out of the general election campaign after making startling comments about rape and abortion.
Weve got to take back the Senate and Missouri is a must-win state, Palin told Fox News Greta Van Susteren. The way we do that is to have someone like Sarah Steelman be able to run even if its as a third-party candidate to be able to run and help us take this back. Palin endorsed Steelman in the primary, which was regarded as showdown for the privilege of challenging the deeply-unpopular Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.
The former Alaska governor reiterated her support for a third-party run when considering how conservatives should respond if Akin does not drop out before the state prints the ballots for the general election.
Maybe it is a third-party run of Sarah Steelman that I could get behind, she said. Granted, the status quo has got to go [Steelman's campaign motto] would be an odd name for a third party, but well coin it, well adopt it, well run with it if thats what it takes in order to get a common sense, constitutional, happens-to-be-pro-life woman in Missouri to clean up this mess that has been created and at the same time take back the Senate.

What are the specific statutes in as far as getting a third-party candidate on the ballot. It would seem to me that since Akin has until Sept. 25 to drop out and the costs of changing the ballot laid on the party/Akin, then that must mean that the ballot is open for changes until that date. BUT there may have been a deadline for a third-party candidate to have filed with the proper amount of signatures. Any clues out there?
should have listened to Sarah about Steelman in the first place.
“Always about Feminism.”
So why did she pick a dude over Lisa Murkowski?
Can you say New York 23?
I don’t mind sacrificing a congressman, but the Senate is too close and too important. Can’t support Sarah on this.
I do not really know, and could easily stand corrected. But, I think Steelman is prohibited from a third-party run under Missouri’s “sore party” loser statute.
I saw Sarah Palin on Greta's show Tuesday night. Palin was VERY ticked off about Akin remaining in the race. Her words were terse, and I don't think she smiled at all during the entire interview. Very unusual for a typical Sarah Palin-Greta Van Sustern interview...
This poster despises Palin. It’s into derangement status.
I saw her, as well, and your assessment is right on!
If he doesn’t go to court and drop out, she is all in for a third party run with Steelman.
Must see tee vee!
Any one can run as a write in candidate though.
“Always about Feminism.”
How so? She’s endorsed many men.
This time, she was right in endorsing Steelman.
He has handled himself terribly. Akin in fact DAMAGES the prolife cause not helps it. He is such a selfish SOB he would rather take everyone down with him than take one for the team. His comments we inexcusable and moronic. Akin is an embarrassment and should retire and take a biology course or two.
I gave Akin the benefit of the doubt until I listened to him speak.
Every time he was asked if he would drop out for the good of the country he diverted the issue and went into how wonderful America is that this country has never forced itself on its neighbors and we rebuild the nations we defeat and our Constitution is the oldest one in the world.
He used the liberal tactic to divert the question.
That’s not all. Unrelated to his verbal blunder that got him in this mess in the first place, I noted something VERY BAD. He’s unstable and claims that he thinks he’s God’s gift to America. I noted (after the fact) that this man is a very bad political candidate, a very bad choice and will likely lose and concede with the faith that all is well because the defeat is in God’s hands and God has other better plans for America.
Another thing I noticed. Akins supporters (outside of his state) are the same republicans that have been running around with their Nobody But My Candidate philosophy.
The Akin supporters are the same ones that would prefer 4 more years of Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi than to see their candidate NOT in the race. So, they could care less if we are defeated in 2012 (even if their candidate Akin owns the defeat). They will divert THAT conversation and say: See? We told you so. Romney should have never been the nominee. Romney LOST it or poor Akin.
Akin and those who stand behind him have hurt (and most likely will continue to hurt) the pro-life and overall Conservative movement in this nation. That’s sad because I fear that an INCREASED number children will be murdered BECAUSE of Akin and those who supported him than would have been killed if he had just dropped out and put life above his ambitions.
Yes, in God’s eyes, those people are just as responsable as the doctor with the vacuum hose. They’ll try to tell St. Peter that they are innocent by pulling out their Republican Registration Card and cry out at the entrance of Heaven I AM AMERICAN!.
I never gave the man my financial support. My hands and conscience are clean. I feel sorry for those unborn who will now have to pay for this damage done by Akin and his blind supporters.
I agree. The local pro-life movement in my city have predicted exactly what you said.
>>> I feel sorry for those unborn who will now have to pay for this damage done by Akin and his blind supporters.
This is way over the top to blame a person as what you posted. Kinda creepy..
Thanks for link onyx.
He is a very nice guy, and his politics are correct.
But, to say that legitimate rape doesn’t result in pregnancy is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.
He messed up...BIG time. The fact that he doesn’t “get” that an apology doesn’t help tells me that, either, he’s in it for himself, or he’s clueless.
BTW, what’s the difference between legitimate rape, and illegitimate rape?
You should read his facebook wall to see how delusional he is. The posts are at least 90-10 in favor of him dropping out but yet he posts about how he is standing up to the liberal elite and is asking for money to help him. It is the CONSERVATIVES who want him out of this race the liberal elite would love for him to stay in. He is unfit for office.
Don’t hold back..though really not into bashing the guy..
It’s beginning to be way too much.
He is a distraction and needs to drop out. Did you watch his apology commercial? Absolutely terrible.
Whether it’s over the top or not depends on how things go from here.
If one vote in the senate ends up being the difference between repealing and not repealing Obamacare. I will refer to it as Akincare from that point on.
Not interested in playing.
The pro-life movement has been hurt. Yes, that IS creepy (for anybody who cares)
I found it creepy when Janet Reno claimed she was doing it for the children and them burned them all up because the end result justified her actions
It may sound creepy but it’s also a fact. The pro-life movement has been hurt.
That’s fine...I respect that.
;o)
However, if you voice your opinion, and others don’t agree, you might be talking to yourself soon.
I was one who felt sorry for the man. I still thought he needed to go after the mistake but I gave him the benefit of doubt. After hearing him on Hannity I could hear that he's in it for himself NO MATTER what the end result will be.
He can just try to blame Romney's nomination for the defeat.
Many of his supporters (outside of his state) are the ones claiming that 4 years of Obama is better than 4 years of a RINO.
Either way they're cheering this whole thing (including possible increased number of abortions) as a victory. Their victory.
He actually put his view nicely. And there’s no mistake. Akin’s mistake (yes, what he said about self-mechanism in woman’s body was a mistake, no way to get around it and he apologized for it) hurt pro-life cause by being a stumble block to the message.
READ it again!...as my dear friend explained...When women don't age well..they dry up and take religion as their cause....GET OVER IT!....(your jealousy )
The Moron Senator has been bought and paid for by the Communist Obama machine. This stupid dink did not just wake up one day spouting inflammatory inappropriate drivel. He is committing political suicide and must have been paid to do it. Abortion and pro life is a compassion and morals issue and he is a moron. Just talk about the 50 MILLION DEAD BABIES from Americans abortions, then shut up.
This is my assumption:
Rape that's illegitimate: Sex between a couple that may be legally considered to be rape (ie: boyfriend/girlfriend ages 17 and 19 - depending on the state)
Legitimate rape: forced sex
That's my take and what I think he meant. But that's just my own assumption. I have not heard the man's explanation.
What he said about pregnancies cannot happen as a result of rape was way over the top.
He needs to go. It may very well be a choice of him or Romney in that state which means it's Akin or Obama.
Then never mind then!...Sit in the truck!...We’ll get it!...or are u gonna work against us?????
Yup!...but whose stupid comments?????....Elect me...I'm stupid!...
sounds like a Dummycrat!..defend the indefensible
“...Sit in the truck!...Well get it!...”
Your truck? Thanks....And could you get me two while you’re at it...?
Steelman and Brunnan can't run as write-ins.
Either way they're cheering this whole thing (including possible increased number of abortions) as a victory. Their victory.
Succinct. There's a dozen or so of those people in the Akin threads. Those around for the primary season wouldn't be too surprised at some of those names either. It proves your point.
I never wait my turn....I let my turn wait on me.
Well, your general crack about women is pretty dumb in itself.
Can I have a button. Goodnight.
I agree. Heard him on Hannity, and that’s all it took for me. We’re the good guys. We don’t tolerate this. The other side had thieves and known sex pots still in office. You have this fake INdian running against Scott. OUr side would never tolerate this.
Sorry, but he must go, and go now.
>> Shame this is happening over stupid comments since he is pro life.
I doubt any one of his detractors can form an objective and logical explanation of his remarks on Life. At worst, there’s a paralyzing ambiguity and dependency on a dubious theory that makes it impossible to say he’s “wrong” in his views — at worst, his views are not discernible. At best, he’s arguing for Life in cases where rape is not a factor.
The mob mentality that’s extended from the Left extreme to the Right is insufferable.
I fear that an INCREASED number children will be murdered BECAUSE of Akin and those who supported him than would have been killed if he had just dropped out.. Yes, in Gods eyes, those people are just as responsable as the doctor with the vacuum hose. My hands and conscience are clean. I feel sorry for those unborn who will now have to pay for this damage done by Akin and his blind supporters. My dear Lord, this is irresponsible. Please clarify yourself as to how someone pro-life could cause MORE murder in the world, by sticking with their Life stance, even under pressure.
When are those states going to wake up and put an end to this utterly stupid way of selecting candidates in a two or three party system?
IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE IDEA OF SOMEONE DEALING OUT YOUR HEALTHCARE ACCORDING TO THEIR NEEDS, WHY ARE YOU LETTING THE SAME IDIOTS THAT BROUGHT US THAT DEBACLE CHOOSE YOUR CANDIDATES?
Well said!
The wrong messenger can kill even the most logical message. This goofball has managed to make a bad messenger look good. I suspect he has uttered this before in the cloak room and McCaskill knew it and had her news toadies ask the question that she knew or hoped would get the response out of him that it did.
Did you ever wonder why she ran the commercials she did knowing some conservatives would vote the way they did combined with an all out effort to have Dems cross over and set this hanging curve ball up?
Note to RNC Platform Committee;
EXERT YOUR PRESSURE TO END OPEN PRIMARIES!
Yes, Sarah is wrong on this strategy. It will only re-elect Mckaskill if she does this. The Republican vote will be split. Bad choice. Akin must get out!
The former Alaska governor should know that third party candidates help the opposition to win. She needs to set her feminism aside and support Akin to ensure he wins the Senate seat.
Sarah carries that ‘Mama Grizzly’ bit too far on some occasions...
Has the RNC ever explained why they think it is a good idea to let Democrats choose Republican candidates? This is a BIG problem...
