Tampa police estimate that 80 to 90 percent of the tax refund fraud they encounter is committed by people on public assistance.

"The people who are benefiting most from our taxes are the ones doing it," said police spokeswoman Andrea Davis.

The Austin IRS shovels millions of dollars to illegal aliens who claim not only their own children living in Mexico, but nieces and nephews as well. No proof that these children even exist is required by the IRS, which hounds U.S. citizens for documentation of every deduction.

Some refunds are over $30,000....which the happy illegal then uses to buy a car or truck for cash. And the U.S. taxpayer doesn’t even get a thank-you note.

I was not shocked by this at all. This is how they keep the economy afloat, keep pushing out the billions by the basket full. The point is, don’t waste it upon the earners and producers.

Meanwhile, McClatchy Papers this AM managed to find a key supporter for Romney in 08 who happened to be a carbon copy commenter of the Akin rape maccaca story. The very same newspaper that could not find out the O was counseled by communists, hung out in a lefty church, has more holes in his personal story then a swiss cheese and whom is a dunce.

In fact, when it comes to O, he looks good, talks well (with a teleprompter), dresses fine and after that you have said it all about him.

“...but IRS criminal investigators can’t refer a case directly to the U.S. Attorney’s Office without approval from Justice Department attorneys in Washington.” experience.”

Having worked there many years ago, I see things have not changed at all in 30 years. One AUSA I was working with on a violation separate from a tax charge, called the DOJ and asked when he was going to get the tax referral case. The DOJ attorney said he had many problems with the levels of proof. The AUSA said to him “hey hump, when you get tired of trying that case on your desk, get it down here as the guy wants to plead guilty”. And so it goes.

Now with Holder in charge at DOJ, I wonder how many of his people he will feel are being screwed by the man and direct his attorneys to not send any matters forward if the person is on some kind of public aid. Add to that mix individual crooks who are big donors to His Excellency especially if they were former governors.

The only problem with the face to face for checks is finding people who would be willing, short of having a tank batalion with them, to hand them out. There used to be a commentary in the inner cities years ago: My lady is coming on whatever date. “My lady” was the welfare person handing out the checks. “My Lady” today would need to be the equal of an infantry platoon.

Not if the recipient has to come into the office, say for monthly drug testing.

Both my sons live in Tampa. One complained that when he filed, he was given $1k less than what he computed on his returns, but the IRS gave no explanation for the difference. For him and his family, living on a salary of less than $26k per year this was a huge loss. Makes one wonder...

No electronic payments, debit cards, etc. Face-to-face for benefits, mail checks for tax refunds.

No individually spent food stamps. Basic food necessities are provided on a weekly basis, such as rice, beans, basic meats, fruit, veggies, flour, salt, etc. Enough basic stuff to get by on, that can't just be spent on casinos or caviar.

Knock me over with a feather... how can it be?

What’s next? That folks who break the law to come here illegally ALSO break other laws once they get here?

And then... that the sun will come up in the East tomorrow!

I can’t breath - how can it be?

It makes some sense. Despite crass and divisive mythology, many of these people are on the razor's edge of survival so they'd be more apt to commit tax fraud because they "need it" compared to someone well employed.

More than 10,000 people remain on a waiting list for federally subsidized housing in Hillsborough County.

10,000? Look state by state and you'll see waiting lists for assistance are described as years long. Preferences are given to minorities, women and women with children.

The #1 solution is jobs. Jobs. Jobs. Jobs.

This is the part were the "I got mine" types swoop in and attack those just trying to get by because they can't find someone to hire them in Obama's economy with 85 million (or more) fighting over available jobs. I say to those snarky asses: SHUT-UP & HIRE or watch out, your time may come.

NO. The real "How to Help?"

HIRE PEOPLE.

Drug testing would likely be tossed by the courts; FL is engaged in that debate now. No benefits for felons will make them even more apt to commit crime to survive.

Stiffer sentences for fraud? Fines? They've no money for that. Jail time? Great! You've solved their food, housing, health care and other problems at tax payer's expense and now these felon'll have no benefits when they're out and return to a life of crime to survive. Genius!

Mailing checks for tax refunds won't stop fraud. Electronic payments are efficient and low cost, and you'll explode the size of government if you require face-to-face for benefits.

The only helpful suggestion I see if regarding computer screening; yet as I said the BEST "How to Help" is employment. And I don't want to hear about burger flipping jobs, they have to be jobs that someone can feed and house themselves with.

So you’re saying poor people are more likely to steal and that’s due to them being poor?

I know some (real)poor people and they don’t do this.

Wow. You have a future working with the likes of Axelrod.

You just toss out my first criterion and then use volume to discount the rest.

Toss drug testing back in (they elect judges, don't they) and see the numbers plummet.

We must not allow ourselves to be blackmailed by felons - you do a crime, you get no dime, period.

Face-to-face is why churches are better at charity than government.
