It’s repugnant because he was implying that women who get pregnant from rape weren’t “legitimately” raped. He was basically saying that if the rape was “legitimate”, her body would either a) not allow fertilization/conception or b) her body would miscarry the fetus.
This is beyond insulting. What about women who were raped, became pregnant and chose not to abort but to carry the baby to term. Now you’ve got some jackass implying she may not have been “legitimately” raped.
Plus on top of everything else he did not need to say ANY of that to make his point.
His only defense is he’s stupid. And that’s hardly something to recommend him for the job of Senator.

Bravo. As I said before, I think a moratorium on aging male politicians talking about rape in any sense other than condemning it and trying to describe the female reproductive system(unless of course they are actually an OB/GYN) would be very wise and would prevent further issues down the road.
The party has plenty of intelligent individuals and doctors that can get into the actual science of things, but if you've got a BS in "Management Engineering", you need to do what I was thought in the Army and that is when you are firing at the range, stay in your lane and focus on your target.
Akin could have stopped all this had he said simply "I don't believe the baby should suffer a worse punishment than the rapist", yeah the left would have still had a cow, but who gives a damn, it would have been a principled stand and not made him sound like a total idiot.

Very well stated Lorianne. I have been trying to avoid these threads all day today as I have noticed a lot of folks trying to explain Akin remarks, etc.
That is a lose, lose proposition for the very reasons you have outlined so well. We can’t win the argument of an idiot that even he is not defending at this point!! Look at how everyone is fighting over it!! This is why the libs love it..it gets the focus off Obama’s horrible record and opens the door to a huge wedge issue that they can exploit. If I didn’t know better I would say that there are some sleeper libs around here just trying to stir it up too.
Let’s move on. I am sick to death of that moron man.....lol. He has not only set back our chances of taking the senate...he has hurt the whole pro life movement.

Rather than me retype, please just see my post #365. It addresses what he actually said.
