Reagan believed in the exceptions of rape, incest and life of the mother, and so do I. As I said yesterday, I consider the exceptions as inviolate as the pro-life plank itself, as do many others.

And there we have the real reason for dumping Akin and demonizing him. It's not because he said something "insensitive," "repugnant" or "unscientific." It's because "a certain amount of abortion is OK and we don't want anyone rejecting the GOP because of these "extremists.""

Not true.

I don’t believe abortion is the appropriate response to a rape induced pregnancy (I think it just adds an additional victim) but I still think what Akin said is extremely offensive and factually WRONG.

His statement implies that a woman who is pregnant from rape but whose body does not spontaneously abort (miscarry) wasn’t “legitimately” raped. That’s just whacked.
