SAN FRANCISCO -- Gov. Jerry Brown, visiting a school this morning to promote his November ballot initiative to raise taxes, stepped inside for a moment before the media with a sixth-grade math and science class.

It was first period, so the Democratic governor asked the students what they'd learned the previous day.

"We learned about, like, some poems and stuff," one student said.

"Poems?" Brown said. "I thought this was math."

"Yeah," the student said.

For sixth grade they are learning poems in math class.

I remember sixth grade math. It was my first “serious” math book, without any pictures. Just a yellow cover. And no, I didn’t have any time to “learn poems”. It was a tough math year.

We are doing our kids a terrible disservice.

I guess the $100,000 Cali meter maids also learned poems in math class (/snix).

In Hermosa Beach California, they defended $100,000 meter maid jobs——positions that do not require much more than the ability to drive a standard transmission car and have a high school diploma.

Remember the nmuerous cities in California and elsewhere venturing closer to bankruptcy.....and the lucrative and often-unjustifiable salaries bestowed on govt employees – and the lofty pension benefits attached to the high pay.

“Meter maids” – are making nearly $100,000 a year in total compensation, according to city documents.There are 10 parking enforcement employees for the 1.3-square-mile beach city southwest of downtown Los Angeles, and they pull down some disproportionate compensation, considering their job functions. In fact, the two highest-earning employees for fiscal year 2011-12 are estimated to have made more than $92,000 and $93,000, respectively.... The other eight parking-enforcement employees make from $67,367 to $84,267 in total compensation.

Retirement costs for these 10 employees “from [fiscal year 2011-12] through their retirement age at 62 was nearly $1.6 million, and the medical costs for these employees from this fiscal year to their retirement at age 62 would be $1,353,827.” Excluding salaries, the [retirement] contributions and medical costs for the 10 employees performing parking enforcement will cost, on average, nearly $300,000 apiece.”

Aside from the personnel costs, there has been criticism that parking meter operations have been mismanaged.....w/ nonfunctioning parking meters, a backlog in disputed parking tickets and problems with the accounting for revenue.

CALI DEPT OF CORRECTIONS POEMS Seems this tax-sucking latino worked for Cali's San Bernardino County Dept of Corrections--was before Judge Judy's court. Told Judge Judy he worked 9 mos and got 3 mos time off to be with his "children"---one of whom was college age.

Judge Judy asked him how he supported himself those 3 mos----he said he collected UI. Seems for nine years the Dept of Corrections calculately "laid him off" and rehired him 3 mos later.

NOTE falsifying govt documents to get UI tax dollars is AKA government fraud.

Now when he was "laid off" to be with his "children," he was traveling to be with his girlfriend---she was suing him for a $4000 loan---which was why they were in JJ's court.

JJ was incensed---is going to send videotape to Congress to show that cases like this are the reason the economy is in the ditch.

I don't think $100,000 is too much pay for being a Meter Maid in Kalifornia.

• All Fed & State Taxes = 60%: $100,000 - $60,000 = $40,000 'clear'

• Cost for Rent/Mort per month = $2,000.00

• Cost for Car Loan, Insurance & Gasoline = $1000.00 month

• $333.33 / 4.3wks / mo = $77.52 a week ... Ouch!!

Years ago I had a 'friend' (He was a Regional Sales Manager) who was transfered from the Chicago Metro Area to San Diego. His company had to almost double his salary AND pay the difference in his housing costs so his living standard didn't change.

I wouldn't live in CA if I was dead. ;-)
