For the first time in public, Jacquetta Simmons told her side of the story today, and in front of the one audience who's opinion of the events Dec. 24 at Walmart really matter: A jury of 12 Genesee County resident who tomorrow must decide whether a 26-year-old Simmons intentionally punched 70-year-old Grace Suozzi.
Simmons, now 27, said she had no idea she even hit Suozzi until hours later. She said she was horrified to learn she had injured Suozzi and it's been a painful realization ever since.
"I feel horrible about it," Simmons said during her only tearful moment on the stand. "I wasn't expecting somebody being -- how was I supposed to know she was standing right in front of me? I keep thinking 'how could I have hit this elderly lady and I don't remember that I hit her?'"

District Attorney Lawrence Friedman, however, judging by his cross examination, wasn't buying Simmon's contention that Suozzi was hit on accident.
While Simmons contends that somebody -- she doesn't know who -- grabbed her arm and, in her own words, she "aggressively" pulled away from the person, causing her to strike Suozzi, Friedman wanted to know how Simmons couldn't have seen Suozzi.
Through repeated questioning, Friedman got Simmons to admit that Suozzi was just a foot or so in front of her when she "punched" Suozzi.

In various ways, through various questions about events, Friedman got Simmons, whose background includes volunteer work in literacy training and child and elder care, to repeatedly admit to "punching" Suozzi.

Loos likes the same kind of sucker punch that a gang of black yutes gave to a drunken white kid in Baltimore last St Patrick’s Day.
I also suspect it was the same type that Trayvon gave to Zimmerman from behind, but Obama’s “son” didn’t give enough respect to Zimmerman’s gun.

I have always said, “by accident.” My four children, all homeschooled since my oldest was in third grade, always said, “on accident,” despite my correcting them repeatedly. I just assumed it was something everyone said in FL, because I had never heard it before until they started saying it. Now they are all grown, but I really haven’t noticed if they still say it that way.
I was talking about the person who said, “on accident,” instead of “by accident.”
So why isn't this considered a hate crime?
This is just a common often-used trite ebonics phrase. Not to be taken personal at Walmarts. Maybe during Mass.
This happened in New York, not East St. Louis.
The jury found the Defendant guilty as charged.

Will the defendant be punished or will she just have to apologize to the woman she punched?
I have lived my entire 80+ years in upstate New York, except for service time, and know where Batavia is and where Monroe county is. Not only that, I know where East Saint Louis is, with splendor of its Mid-Continental Diversity and its #1 rating in crime.
Why do you think I didn’t know that the the attack took place in Batavia, NY?
Just trying to follow the logic of your statement. If you thought the event occurred in East St. Louis, then it would make sense to say that it helps one to understand why East St. Louis is the way it is. But if you knew it occurred in New York, why did you relate it to East St. Louis when you compared it to Baltimore and Florida? Why not the Meadowlands, or Detroit, or some other better known high crime cities. Did something happen to you in East St. Louis, or did you see some report about the town?
There are many reasons why East St. Louis is the way it is. When I was a kid growing up in St. Louis County, I remember reading an article about the decline in East St. Louis and asking my Mom how it go so bad over there, and she explained the many causes. But I don’t see how a woman punching a Wal-Mart clerk in a town in New York has anything to do with it.
Now if you were to mention the couple who got lost in East St. Louis and were shot and killed when they stopped to ask someone for directions, that would make sense. A buddy of mine and I got lost there shortly after that happened, and we were scared s-less until we found an entrance ramp to the highway.
