Quebec bride-to-be plunges to death into waterfall in her wedding dress

RAWDON, Que. - A bride-to-be has plunged to her death, tumbling down from a cliff into a waterfall while wearing her wedding dress.

The woman was being photographed Friday at Dorwin Falls in Rawdon, Que., which she had chosen as the backdrop for her wedding pictures.

During the photo shoot, around 2 p.m., she slipped on some rocks and plummeted into the water. The falls, at their highest point, are just over 18 metres high.

The immediate rescue team included firefighters and provincial police, and divers were soon on their way. The woman's body was found several hours later.

A provincial police spokesman, Ronald McInnis, said nobody could have saved her.

"It's impossible," he said. "The falls are very high. The current is very violent, it's very rocky...

"The people who fall at that spot usually perish. It doesn't give you a chance."

Two witnesses — whose identity was not confirmed by police — had to be transported to hospital to be treated for extreme shock.

The woman was on the verge of getting married "within days," police said. They would not confirm, however, whether the wedding was to be held Saturday.

“Take the plunge?” - Inappropriate, but had to be said. Thanks for not holding back.

I have a direct quote. Drew said “Damn, why didn’t I think of that?”

Pay attention to the grammar:

“Was to be held” is different than “will be held”

This reeks of death by Darwin.

Yeah, I was gonna make a comment about that then I chickened out for fear of getting flamed. But having said that, there's always that element of irony when unwise people give Mother Nature a hand by taking themselves out of the reproductive pool.

Anyway, I bet it would have been a real pretty wedding picture, except for the obvious.

Seriously, head out of butt and watch your step when walking near a waterfall.

Who raised this person?

According to the reporter, the wedding may still be held today.

That reporter really got it wrong. Per the link posted in comment #8, she was already married and wanted more pictures. I didn't know people took more wedding pictures two months after the wedding.
"....the woman, who had been married in June, wanted some extra photos taken for her wedding album.

There is a reason the brain says, “What, wait, I don’t want to go there!”

Okay, the story is very sad but I have to ask:

Mary, is that you?

Pay attention to Journo ineptitude.

The wedding was already held in June.

Wow. So sad for the family and to be Groom. That is one way she probably never expected to die.

I don't know HOW I will die but I do know how I will NOT die. Skydiving, bungee jumping, on a motorcycle, in a meth lab explosion, playing chicken with a freight train, moose hunting, flying in a Cessna, etc......

Why would they post a picture of a wedding ring set on a pile of popcorn for this story? Perhaps a picture of the water falls or the lovely victim would have been more appropriate? Strange.

“Was to be held”

Past perfect future tense?

I guess journalism is now a race for online click-counts, and time is money.

That's right. You see the best examples on Foxnews.com. It is truly pathetic that this kind of ignorance passes the editor. Nobody bothers to proof read before posting their stories on their news site.
