Mitt Romney asserts control over 2016 calendar
Politico ^ | Saturday August 25, 2012

If Romney wins in November, another significant change passed here Friday give him dramatically more power to shape the primary calendar and apportionment of delegates going into 2016. Historically only the convention rules committee, which meets just once every four years, can officially change party rules. But going forward, the Republican National Committee — a group of 168 elected representatives from the states and territories — can change party rules with a three-fourths vote.

But Ginsberg isn’t waiting to push rules through that national committee. He introduced and passed a measure Thursday that requires a candidate to control eight state delegations in order to be formally nominated on the floor of a convention, upping the threshold from five. Paul comes to Tampa with three, meaning he will not get a chance to speak on the floor.

Conservatives cried foul and Paul acolytes felt railroaded, but a day of heated speeches couldn’t hold off the pro-Romney maneuvers.

“It’s definitely a power grab by the campaign, the committee,” said Drew McKissick, South Carolina’s representative on the rules committee. “It’s bad juju. Once you let the genie out of the bottle, they can do anything.”

“This really is truly groundbreaking,” he added. “We are telling all the states how they have to pick their delegates.”

Making sure that it'll be more difficult to mount any major challenges against him in 2016, once he turns to the left

As I"ve noted many times, January 21, 2013 is not too early to start focusing on an impeachment ~ and if for no other reason than to split the Congress. I think a Conservative led insurgency would work in the House. Then, let the Senate decide it wants to give it back to the Democrats ~ or the GOP~e will have to go along with the Conservatives, or put all of Romney's appointments in their hands.

In short, begin the process of expelling the GOP~e from the Republican party at the moment of their greatest triumph. They'll understand! Oh, and that 8 state rule will block them out of the next Convention.

I guess they all forgot about getting rid of open primaries. Oh well...

Just great... Romney beats Obama just to turn around and uphold socialized medicine, legalized babycide, and gun control. I have a feeling they are setting up the greatest switchoo ever perpetuated on a nation.

What could we even do about in 2016... vote bama/0 back in? — I don’t think so.

Open primaries assures the Establishment that those more liberal voters will vote for them and not for the conservative

He has to rule right of center to change what Obama did and change what obama did is what he promised.

Disturbing. Tyrant like. Muscled the Catholic Church and missions in Massachusetts. Muscle the people in their state Republican Party rules. Simple. Easy. And, we expected this of the Myth.

Read the article again. This change will make it easier to mount a challenge, not more difficult. Whoever manages to win a caucus or primary will get the delegates. There will be no room for backroom maneuvering.

It means that big states and big money will monopolize the process. Nobody without a warchest of tens of millions of dollars BEFORE any primaries or caucuses will even get a sniff. No more early caucuses and primaries in small states to yield surprises.

On the other hand, it will force actual conservatives to form a new party if they want representation.

Check out this latest skullduggery by Team Romney. Not only have they screwed up 2012, but now they’re screwing up 2016 as well.

and change what obama did is what he promised.

Anyone who thinks conservatives will “hold Romney’s feet to the fire” if he wins election is dreaming. And we’ve told you this.

And told you this.

And told you this.

Yep. What's going on here is that Romney is anticipating a win in November, and moving now to bury any chance of a TEA Party challenge to the GOP-E in 2016.

It stinks and is a prime reason why Romney, as the enemy within, is even more insidious for Conservatives than Obama.

The ABO crowd better be wising up, and fast!

Evidently the Myth-Klan is counting a few kolobian chickens before they're hatched.

The first time President Myth farts out of his left face, he's gonna end up in the same dung heap as the Oweatherwoosie.

You really think that, do you. That a single House member would immediately submit Articles of Impeachment against a new President. You think that. That's a thought that you actually had.

Just for reference, how many House members have pledged to run on that platform this fall? "I promise to impeach the new President."

Very possibly you are correct with your analysis. I see Chicago style politics in this maneuver, and I don’t like it one damned bit.

This maneuver is definitely manipulating the rules in favor of a candidate instead of the system. THAT is what makes this Chicago style.

Mitt Romney is the wrong candidate for the country at this time in history. We don’t need this sort of uncertainty in our leadership. Is he going to do what he campaigns he will do, or will he revert to his historic Liberalism, and continue the demise of this once great Nation.

I don’t trust the man myself. We need someone who doesn’t play the game the way we see outlined in this article to favor himself rather than the system, thus the party. Not acceptable behavior.

The initial stipulation was 'as he moves left' ~ so if he doesn't move left that doesn't apply, but who really expects Romney to NOT move left?

How many Conservative and TEAParty candidates are running on a platform to MOVE LEFT.

Yeah, I can see a resolution submitted the first day the dude tries it.

BTW, before attempting to jump down someone's throat, read the post to which the response is being made. We really don't need to recopy the elements that stir us to respond on FR. Just hit that lil' number there and it'll take you right to the preceding post in that chain of thought.

Then you can jump down someone's throat on the RIGHT thing and not on the DA thing!

They're using the Overton window of political possibility against us. With Obama being so bad they saw a chance to run to the left of McCain. The demo talks of specifics but the who partywide shift works the same way and we end up further to the left than we wee after Bush.
