SPRINGFIELD, Ma., Aug. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- According to a Kimball Political Consulting survey of registered voters in Massachusetts, Senator Scott Brown has a 6 point lead over Democrat Elizabeth Warren (49 percent to 43 percent) with 9 percent undecided. The figure is just within the survey's 4 percent margin of error.
President Obama continues to hold a double digit lead over former Massachusetts Mitt Romney (52 percent to 41 percent) with 7 percent undecided. Poll results are based on a sample of respondents most likely to vote in November.
"Senator Brown is winning decisively among independents but Warren still has a chance to come back. The data suggest that for Warren to close the gap it may be time for her to change her emphasis, from the cost of education to job creation," said Spencer Kimball, Political Consultant and President of Kimball Political Consulting. "Romney, on the other hand, needs to repair his image in the Commonwealth where 54 percent of likely voters have an unfavorable opinion of him. However, his choice of Paul Ryan may help him with defining the deficit as the most important issue for voters and help his support among a strong Irish Catholic voting bloc in the bay state."
Independent voters are splitting their voting choices between President Obama and Senator Brown; 56% of Independents favor the Senator and 44% intend to vote for the President. Warren also needs to shore up her base of Democrat support with 21% of Democrats saying they would vote for Brown.
The most important issue facing likely voters in Massachusetts is jobs at 40 percent followed by the deficit at 21 percent.
The statewide survey of 592 Massachusetts likely voters was conducted August 21, 2012, using automated telephone interviews of landline and cell phone users.

Just scares me to think of our nation if it comes to be dominated by liberal states like Mass, Cal, NY.

In my neck of the woods I see quite a few Osama Obama bumprer stickers and yard signs and scores and scores of Princess Liawatha stickers and signs.I've see one or two Brown yard signs,one Brown bumper sticker and one Romney bumper sticker...total!
Have you ever even *been* to Massachusetts? While Romney may well have coattails in many states and Osama Obama in only a few I can guarantee you that Osama will win this state 60/40 and may well carry Princess Liawatha over the finish line with him.
Well, the libs are good at initimidation, when it comes to destroying property, keying cars etc, when the conservative owner isnt around..They are much less brave face to face... I have yet to see a liberal that i would be afraid of in a streetfight
If I were running Romney’s campaign, I’d be sinking money in EVERY state that had a large white voter base, including MA, simply because the president has decided to go with the black vote only - and leave whites to fend for themselves.
Yes, the whites in MA are liberal, but they are also ANGRY at the way they’ve been treated, particularly with that Harvard professor clown early in this Administration. There is DEFINITELY hope up there - being only 11 points down without even lifting a finger is a very good sign.
Despite our reputation as being a lost cause blue state, Republicans are usually good for 40% or more in statewide elections here. Outside the metro areas, we are more like New Hampshire, demographic-wise. In order to close that 10-15% gap, we just need the GOP to invest in our state and not write us off.
A well-run campaign effort by Romney/Ryan here could provide the necessary coattails to finally get some Republicans elected downticket and start turning the tide. More and more Bay Staters are getting fed-up with the Democrat machine.

Oh, I agree that Obama will win the state, but I would expect Romney to do better there than any Republican has in recent history. Enough to help pad Browns victory.

And why not? MA has been dark blue since the 1960’s and Reagan carried in 1980 and 1984 with his appeal to blue collar workers negatively affected by Carters bad economy of 1980 and Reagans good economy of 1984.
I think Daddy Bush was the last Republican to get over 40% of the vote there, so Romney at 41% isn’t too bad. Even if doesn’t win it, he can maybe hang close enough to make 0bama have to spend some money there to hold on to it.
I did a drive around Newburyport and Haverhill on my last trip over the border, not too many Granny Warren signs up. I will have to wait until after the primaries.
