Republicans have postponed their national convention in Tampa at least a day because of concerns about Tropical Storm Isaac.

The event will kick off Monday morning but the convention will immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement.

“Due to the severe weather reports for the Tampa Bay area, the Republican National Convention will convene on Monday August 27th and immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon, August 28th. After consulting with Governor Scott, NOAA and local emergency management officials, we are optimistic that we will begin an exciting, robust convention that will nominate the Romney-Ryan ticket,” Priebus said.

Tampa is likely to not have major effects from this storm as models trend west toward Mobile. However, it could be a major hurricane....this type of crap is what Obama knows how to turn into political advantage. If so....may not get a convention bump at all this year.

It’s almost as though holding the convention in Florida during hurricane season wasn’t the smartest move. Fancy that.

The current Tampa forecast for Monday is for heavy rain and 31 mph winds, which doesn’t seem too bad, relatively speaking.

After Obama stole Florida in 2008 the GOP was practically forced to hold the cinvention in Tampa.

Models seem to be converging close to NEW ORLEANS. A major hurricane in that area would not be good.....

What a nunch of wimps. That “storm “ is a fazzler. It is a joke. These women run from mice. This makes me sick

I think they should have held it in Ohio quite frankly. Oh well the GOPe gave us Romney so they are not that smart anyway.

Actually the trend is going way west, likely even west of Mobile...even New Orleans are in danger....not a place we want a major hurricane happening! Bring back Bush comparisons etc.

It is currently but environment in Gulf ripe for rapid strengthening...don’t want Obama getting a poll boost off a national disaster.

Preibus picked the date ~ what a doufous. Just what did this amateur imagine hurricane season is about? Did he think it was just an overhyped TV show or something?

On Friday I saw at least twelve buses headed south on I-77 headed to the convention. Picture of the American flag painted on them. There were probably more but I only saw about 12.

I think they are planning against the possibility that the hurricane is hitting something on Monday — it would dominate the news, and the media would love to show people suffering from a hurricane while the GOP is “partying” at their convention.

Currently the zone extends to or nearly to LA, MS, AL, GA, FL, SC, NC, AR, MO, IL, IN, KY, PA, WV, VA and within days MD, DE, etc.

This is a hum dinger of a storm ~ the Great Drought East of 95 Degrees West will be broken!

I think as long as the HURRICANE WARNINGS in Florida cover both the East and the West Coast it really doesn't matter if this thing drifts toward LA again. Both coasts ~ this is hugh and series.

With the Tampa Convention Center at 6 feet above sea (Gulf) level, at the head of a funnel-shaped harbor, the key issue is storm surge... even if the hurricane itself is passing west of the town.
