What a plan. Abandon the good guy on the field of battle and complain that he will lose.
But that's not the plan Akin followed. Instead, he did this: said something indefensible, gave two incoherent interviews to reinforce the idiocy, stayed in the race until it was too late to easily replace him with an equally conservative candidate who could win, and then complained about the GOP abandoning him.
Quite a plan!
A week ago, Mark Levin said if he had his druthers Akin would drop out, but if he doesn’t, conservatives should support him. But alas, Akin decided to stay in the race and Levin has been against him ever since.
NO man is worth allowing that happen.
This is about conservatism, not Akin or anybody else.

Love the screen name. I also want to exterminate rats. I once hired an exterminator, who turned out to be a loon, said stupid things, and didn’t catch the rat. In fact, the rat laughed at him. So I replaced him with a real exterminator who actually did get rid of the rat.

I’m a Missourian and I can not support a fool on a fool’s errand. Vote for him if I have no other choice but not support him when he can drop out and let a viable candidate take over.

Abandon? The guy walked into a clearly marked mine field and started failing around with the predictable results. Only an incompetent, or one with a death wish, would do what Akin did. You don't want a guy like that on your squad. He increases the chances of everyone else to be injured or kilt.
During the Second World War, Eighth Air Force bombers flew in tight “combat box” formations with hundreds of B-17’s or B-24’s in them, These formations were so designed that every gun on every plane covered every other one in the formation in every direction. This formation integrity was essential in maintaining safety of the combat wing beyond escort fighter range. This formation also ensured a tight bomb pattern on the target.
If a plane was hit by fighter fire or flack and lost an engine or two and was unable to keep up with the formation it became a straggler, and had to be sacrificed for the safety of the group and the effectiveness of the strike.
The straggler was usually pounced by Luftwaffe fighters as soon as it fell behind the protection of the massed guns of the formation and shot to pieces.....a bomber carrying ten men being cut to pieces in full view of their comrades, friends, and fellow flyers......who could do nothing but continue to fly on in formation to the target.
Akin has become that straggler, and the GOP must continue on flying towards the target in formation.
I agree. It’s insane. The reaction by the Party has been infinitely worse than the gaffe itself. This could have been remedied easily by a clarification and simple, sincere apology for the misunderstanding.
If you’re a McCain or Bush, you can run as poor a campaign as you like and pin the loss on the third party candidate or your VP pick. If you’re a conservative—forget it. No mistakes permitted. And you’ll be the scapegoat for losses in other, unrelated campaigns.
