Surrender by any other name would smell as bad. You never tell the enemy you will just stop trying because it seems hard right now. And in fact your assumption that no politician can get consensus on this hard issue may be false, as a majority of Americans now see abortion as wrong. People are starting to realize there is no logical escape from the charge of murder. Why would we be shy about abortion policy, right when we are starting to see the tide of public opinion shift in our favor? It would be like punting on first down, from your opponent's 10 yard line. It makes no sense to cede the field to those who are ok with killing babies for the misdeeds of their parents.
