Isaac bears down, but no mandatory evacuations in New Orleans

New Orleans officials announced Monday that they've decided not to call for mandatory evacuations in the city ahead of Tropical Storm Isaac's landfall, but evacuations have been ordered for many residents in surrounding parishes, particularly those outside protective levees.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu had said that a mandatory evacuation would not be ordered unless the storm was expected to become a Category 3 hurricane. On Monday afternoon, with forecasts still predicting a Category 1 storm, or possibly a Category 2, he announced that no mandatory evacuation would be ordered.

That is kinda weird. The state has been called for “A state of Emergency”. They better not screw this up like last time.

Just saw the weather channel.

pResident Obama to make a statement about Isaac at 10am.

The reporter admits on live TV: “THIS TIME if anybody gets caught in the storm it will be their own fault, unlike during Hurricane Katrina.”

My sister and BIL live in the Panhandle, not far from Destin, FL. Part of the watch. PRAYERS for all in the areas affected.

Hats off to Mayor Landrieu. With the ridiculous feeding frenzy of the media, every storm, no matter how minor, gets the same over-blown coverage. After dozens of these hyper-ventilating extravaganzas, causing needless evacuations, people ignore them.

Democrats used this Hurricane to mess up the RNC Convention.

Tampa was NEVER in the path of this storm.

Tampa Democratic Officals played it to the hilt closing Schools etc.

Yet neighboring counties never did anything. I was born and raise in Tampa and they have accused me of being Rush Limbaugh.

This just shows I told them how useless the Government is or Obama was using the National Hurricane Center for Politics take your pick

But it backed fire as Gas prices will be blamed on him

Heard from my sister on Sunday is that, every time there is a hurricane, the black snakes come out. Not happy to be disturbed.

That is kinda weird.

Keep in mind, this storm is still "only" a tropical storm and has not reached hurricane force winds.

There is a 65~68% chance it will reach Hurricane Category 1 for 24 hours then a 80% chance it will fall back to Tropical Storm status.

This is not a Katrina type storm that was Category 5 this far offshore.

Comparing the two is like comparing a smart car to a Formula 1 racer.

One reason why governors are reluctant to order mandatory evacuations, is that the order triggers an obligation for the government to provide transport, shelter, and food to any mandatory evacuees who declare they need it.

I watched the idiots in Miami on TV during the pass through the keys. They shut down schools, government, roads, bridges etc. Then the idiots had weather babes down in the Keys and people in bathing suits behind them. A few years ago the idiots ordered mandatory evacuation for the Keys and NOTHING. Do you know how much idiots in the government cost the Keys with their stupidity?

No matter how hard the moron in Chief playing President tries to make this a disaster, this is like a strong tropical storm. It is no stronger than the typical thunderstorm coming through on a hot summerday, it’s just bigger and has more rain. It’s going to be a good thing for dry Arkansas.

Presstitute hype and the morons in the government fall into place. The Democrats (radical leftists) are disappointed people didn’t die in Tampa.

This is how stupid our country has become.

The reporter admits on live TV: “THIS TIME if anybody gets caught in the storm it will be their own fault, unlike during Hurricane Katrina.”

It was their fault then, also. There is a segment of the population who look forward to these storms because lots of people are away from their homes. Know what I’m sayin’?

It IS a tropical storm (unless it was just upgraded very recently).

Very good graphics.

As I understand it, Isaac is still a tropical storm, and is 18 hours from landfall. There is still reason for concern; and, I’m sure there will be some damage....but all the hype is misplaced.

And I might detect a slight westward hook on the graphic - it could still hit much further west than New Orleans.
