AMES, Iowa (AP) President Barack Obama, appealing to students who powered his first White House run, swooped onto college campuses Tuesday to remind those returning to class that they hold a unique power to determine the election.
"Your vote matters. Your vote made a difference," Obama told about 6,000 students at Iowa State University, many wearing cardinal and gold T-shirts. "Change was possible because of you and now we've got more work to do."
Obama told the students that they had much at stake in the Nov. 6 presidential election, panning Republican rival Mitt Romney as a candidate without a plan to move the country forward. "Last week my opponents' campaign went so far as to write you off as a lost generation. That's you according to them," the president said, referring to a Romney news release last week that referred to college students as the "Obama Economy's Lost Generation."
"What they hope is that by telling you these things, you'll get discouraged and you'll just stay home this time," Obama said. "But you can't believe it. I don't believe it."

No jobs. Ton of debt. Bankrupting their future.
I’m sure our young students thirsting for knowledge will recognize the pearls of wisdom this asshole is casting before them.
51% can find a Job or a under employed and 31% moved back home.
But they got "free" health care, all the way to age 26 (assuming poor Mom or Dad has a job).
I attended Iowa State back in the’60s
Does this a$$wipe ever talk to anyone other than students, communist sympathizers, and union thugs?
You folks are much kinder than I am. Now I have to go repent.
You betcha. Mostly grads from fem lit, pol sci, or those useless courses like peace studies’ will go brain-dead and see the lies as gospel whenever klownie the kenyan talks.
My younger sister and my brother-in-law graduated at ISU. He was the Army ROTC honor graduate, giving him a regular Army commission instead of a reserve commission. He retired as an military intelligence O-6 some time ago. Went to Ballard High School in Huxley, so most of my teenage jobs were in Ames. Usher at the Varsity theatre in Campustown, Taco John’s, Hardee’s (both at the mall and on S. Duff) and Hy-Vee.
recruit them while they are still stupid.
I think this age group in particular can pick up on desparation pretty quick, and don’t like it.
We shall see.
It’s encouraging if Zero feels the need to shore up this voting bloc. What’s next, campaigning in Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s church?
Reader comments to posted articles are often more interesting than the articles themselves. In this case, reader comments are 95% against Obama. Some of the comments are quite funny. :-)
“Does this a$$wipe ever talk to anyone other than...”
Yes! MovieStars!
Is he kidding? There have been four graduating classes since he ran in 2008. Most of them are still looking for jobs in Obama’s economy. Romney/Ryan need to hit the campuses and stress how Obama has failed young people. Tell them if they want to pay off their debt, get their own place and get off mom and dad’s health plan they need to help us throw the lying socialist out.
My daughter returned home from the first day of Fall Semester to inform me that her entire campus was abuzz with talk that Obama was about to forgive all their student loans.
I’m tellin’ ya, it’s the October Surprise. And his operatives are putting the word out via Twitter or Facebook or at Freshman Mixers or on wrappers of free condoms or somewhere.
“Your vote matters. Your vote made a difference,”
Especially since some of them can vote twice - once in their state of residence and once in the state of their schools - without much chance of being caught.
Was this another of Obama’s taxpayer rip-offs? While trolling for young suckers, Obama’s strategy is to force colleges/taxpayers to fund his campaign by eating large security and event-related costs.
To any Iowans out there: please let us know if this happened at ISU. If so, people need to make a stink until state government and representatives receive immediate reimbursement. This Chicago shakedown is an outrage.
