Complete title

Floor fight: Grass-roots activists battle attempt to rig RNC delegate rules Updated: Palin: “direct attack on the grass-roots;” RNC power grab showdown 2pm; Rush weighs in; purge underway?; Rules Cmte votes 78-14 for deal; dissidents gather sigs for floor fight; Boehner/Sununu declare”no objections” over massive boos on floor

*********************************************************

*snip*

Update 3:34pm Eastern Dissidents have until 3:47pm Eastern to gather enough signatures to force the floor vote, according to right-leaning Examiner’s Tim Carney, who is on scene. Left-leaning BuzzFeed’s Zeke Miller, also on scene, says it appears dissidents have gathered enough signatures for minority report on Rule 12, but not yet on Rule 15(16).

Carney says that Drew McKissck has emailed a minority report to RNC leaders within the rules deadline…

***

Update: 4:34pm Eastern Well, that was…something else. First, Maine delegates were replaced with Romney people. Then, rules chairman John Sununu and GOP Speaker of the House John Boehner stood on stage at the RNC to rule on the compromise rules report. No minority report was mentioned. When asked for yeas and nays on the report, the room seemed equally divided. Boehner forged ahead and approved the report over loud boos and calls of “point of order” from activists on the floor.

No vote on the minority report.

FW’s Dean Clancy observes: “If @SpeakerBoehner had been wielding the Speaker’s gavel instead of the GOP convention gavel, he wouldn’t have gotten away with that trick.”

And the show went on…GOP Rep. Marsha Blackburn just declared that “this has been a great exercise in grass-roots” and that GOP stands for “Great Opportunity Party.”

Rob Port:

Watch until about 2:39:00 when Speaker of the House John Boehner takes the podium and asks for a voice vote on the rules. The “nays” from the floor were at least as loud as the “yeas,” but Boehner approved the rules “without objection.”

What a joke.

Meanwhile, a North Dakota delegate texted me from the floor of the convention saying that they were instructed to chant “USA” (you can hear it during the video) to drown out the dissenters.

no they were RuPaulists. It is ironic, these were the rules the McCain people put four years ago.

I agree with MM 90% of the time, but 10% of the time she is a nag.

Ron Paul didn’t miss. This went off just as he planned.

Ron Paul hates Mitch Romney almost as much as he hated Rick Santorum, not quite, but almost.

Ron Paul prefers Barack Obama to either Mitt Romney, or Rick Santorum, or Newt Gingrich for that matter.

... We have to remember that this election is not just about replacing the party in power. It’s about who and what we replace it with. Grassroots conservatives know this. Without the energy and wisdom of the grassroots, the GOP would not have had the historic 2010 electoral victories.

That’s why the controversial rule change being debated at the RNC convention right now is so very disappointing. It’s a direct attack on grassroots activists by the GOP establishment, and it must be rejected. Please follow the link to Michelle Malkin’s article about this.

Boehner is a maggot. He’s never even come close to getting that tough with the dictator in the White House in all this time.

Yup. We told you so. Those of us who have taken pipe from the ABO crowd - (which in reality meant Vote Romney No matter What) refused to listen to reason when it was explained that the Ruling Class foisting of Romney upon us, was to ensure that Conservatism is made politically irrelevant.

Well, today proves our point - even if the Ron Paul Mob Zombies tried to capitalize on it.

Romney ensures an Obama and /or Ruling Class win. They hate us as much as the Obama MarxoFascists do. They want a seat at the table of MarxoFascism to have a hand in the money and power over what is left of America.

I will never vote for Romney, even if he had Palin on his ticket.

It’s time to go third party and let the GOP go the way of the Whigs. I am forever done with the GOP and any candidate who runs on their ticket.

Don’t disparage maggots. They have a role in life.

Boehner, Obama’s buddy, and now the SOROS-ROMNEY
attack dog, is scum for what he has done deliberately
to ruin conservative principles.

This COULD have gone another way, but given Mr.RomneyCARE,
in retrospect, it had to be his cheating way.

I know what you mean. I posted “I miss George Wallace” not long ago and was called a racist. I guess most people hear the name and immediately think lynchings. Do they now teach in school that Wallace personally hung blacks?

A Twenty Year Old Score to Settle?

By: Erick Erickson (Diary)  |  August 28th at 01:04 PM

I’ve been talking to some of the older delegates who have been around for a while. They have a theory that only people who’ve been in politics at this level for a very long time could come up with.

Back in 1992, John Sununu had been pushed out of the White House as Chief of Staff, but was still a committed partisan for George H. W. Bush. Ben Ginsberg was a lawyer with the Republican Party.

In 1992, Pat Buchanan challenged George H. W. Bush, forced his way into the convention as a speaker, and lots of conservatives rallied to him. It was a very bad year for Team George H. W. Bush and to this day social conservatives and Pat Buchanan get blamed.

This year, John Sununu and Ben Ginsberg are with Mitt Romney. They saw an upstart campaign from Rick Santorum, who rallied social conservatives like Pat Buchanan did in 1992. He got himself onto the convention stage with a speech, tonight, on welfare that a number of prominent Republicans are worried about.

The guys who’ve been old hands at this for a long time have gotten it in their heads that these rule changes Team Romney keeps coming up with is payback from Ginsberg and Sununu going back to 1992. It doesn’t matter whether it is true or not, they are muttering about it in the halls and it fits as the only rational explanation to a number of these guys.

One of them laughingly told me, “They had Phyllis [Schlafly] give her seal of approval to the platform. Now they’ll make sure they never have to listen to her or the rest of us again.”

Old politicos never actually get over grudges on either side within either party ever.

I have a feeling you might as well vote third party because the republicans do not want to win and WON’T win.

As for wasting your vote, I voted for mccain and I feel like I REALLY wasted my vote.
