Controversy Over New RNC Rules (Boehner: "rules unanimously adopted". Entire VA delegation NO!)
GPB News ^ | 8/28/12 | Parker Wallace

At a crucial time for GOP unity, there has been some dissent at the Republican National convention over new rules for delegate selection.

The controversial rules were challenged by grass roots factions of the Republican Party, ultimately resulting in a last minute compromise.

A new RNC rule would have allowed presidential candidates to vet and choose their own delegates, leaving state parties out of the selection process. This angered many grass root party activists, like Ron Paul supporters, because it would limit their ability to gain delegates at future conventions.

Columbus State University political scientist Greg Domin says it cuts out dissenting voices from the mainstream, presumptive candidate’s message:

“You know you’re talking about folks who have a different point of view than say this year’s candidate who will be Mitt Romney, and their voices would ultimately be silenced by this. If you eliminate the state parties from picking their candidate they’re basically becoming homogeneous.”

Julianne Thompson, one of Georgia’s national delegates for Mitt Romney, says taking the power to choose delegates away from states is a dangerous move that threatens grass roots efforts:

“I mean it only stands to reason that delegations would eventually be made up of high donors and personal friends of the nominee instead of representing the actual grass roots which is the heart and soul of the Republican party.”

A compromise was reached late Monday night that candidates would have to consult with state parties in selecting delegates.

Breaking on Mark Levin Show.

Mark interviewed Virginia delegate Morton Blackwell who said while standing in the front row the entire delegation was united in opposing adoption of the new rules and SCREAMING NO! Blackwell said Boehner completely ignored them and declared the rules unanimously adopted.

Everyone is reporting they were just Ron Paul supporters and they were not!

Rove was involved in this.

This smacks of Leninism and “democratic centralism”.

This kind of tactic is wholly unacceptable in a party that claims to represent the American form of government.

I think the delegates should walk out? Or do they have other options available? That would be heard by Boehner?

Sarah Palin has already hinted that a 3rd Party may be necessary to get out from under the GOP-E....she’s correct, as the money and power will NOT listen to Conservatives, and DESTROY any Conservative Candidates in the Race (i.e., Palin, Cain, etc.).

I think it’s going to take litigation to fix it.

As I wrote in another thread, Ken Cuccinelli (VA AG and delegate) reported that we lost two out of three with regards to the changes. He wasn't happy about it but is committed Romney and Allen winning Virginia.

Morton Blackwell, like Cooch, is a very good conservative man.

The entire Texas delegation was shouting no from the rooftops too. John Boehner needs to be forced by the grassroots to step down from his speaker role immediately.

So, maybe Virginia can be the first state to refudiate (ha ha that word again) the RINO laden RNC ~ time to go convene somewhere else with different rules, and BTW, the lawyers need to gin up a brand new national totem ~ call it THE NEW REPUBLICAN PARTY.

Just leave the convention now.

If this were not so serious it would be humorous. The republican party elites deserve the Darwin award for suicidal self destruction. These folks are emotionally driven retards no different from most democrats I know.

From what I hear from the delegation, they are 100% united on their opposition to the changes. They are also going to continue this fight.

Everyone is reporting they were just Ron Paul supporters and they were not!

Its an Alinsky tactic of denigrating your opposition by attaching them to someone perceived as bad. I'm no fan of Ron Paul but I stand with those people who are there today and I say that this has seriously damaged Romney's chances in November and it won't matter one bit who they blame.

Interestingly enough it looks like Mitt is just finishing what his daddy started before stomping offstage like a little girl in 64.

(1964) GOP Warned to beware extremists. May destroy republicans; Romney

He called conservatives, "Birchers, racists, etc" before throwing his tantrum. Then he and the other "moderates" actively worked to defeat Goldwater. Once they succeed, they've spent the next 50 years pointing to Goldwater's defeat as proof that we have to be more moderate.

These clowns have a truckload of bad ju ju headed their way

What more do you need, REAL conservatives? WE ARE NOT WELCOME. They don’t even want to HEAR us!

The GOP is just Big Government Liberals with a different face.

I AGREE. I think Mittens was the GOP-E pick to lose the most gracefully to Barry. Rush was right I think.. They don’t want to be called racists for beating Obama in the Presidential election....they just want their Chairmanships and the Country’s pursestrings.

I would love to see them act this way to the Democrats on the House floor when taking a vote. Just declare it unanimously agreed to whether the Dems shout about it or not. Looks like Boehner has a spine, all right. He only uses it against conservatives. I believe these RINOs are really Dems in Pub clothing. The party has been infiltrated by the other side so that there will be only one party in reality.

Just when I was thinking I might vote for Romney, they pull this and lump “tea party” in with “Paultards”. I still like Ryan but I’m sure he was selected to the “warm bucket of spit” job to get some credibility with conservatives. Won’t work. A third party may be the only way - I can’t believe I just said that but I’m very angry.
