AURORA, Colorado (Reuters) - Families of people killed and wounded in a shooting rampage inside a Colorado movie theater in July said on Tuesday they were being denied a voice in how $5 million in donations raised to help them was being dispersed.

Tom Teves, whose son Alex was killed, said the first disbursement of funds went to various charities instead of victims and that a committee charged with distributing the money does not have any victims or their families on it.

It’s fraud if they collected the money on the pretense of it going to the victims families.

Why is it that so called do-gooders and levelers are always in the front of the line when money is disbursed? Giving money to front groups instead of direct help to to those who need it is an open invitation to corruption.

The reason why we have juries, instead of victims, pass judgement on the guilty, is to remove the emotion from the judgement as much as possible.

The many, many “charities” that collected funds for the Texas wildfire victims last September did the same thing. They said funds collected would go to the victims, but other than funds given by churches, the money collected went to the various local government agencies that did a horrible job during the crisis.

Lesson: After a disaster, give a personal check to victims directly. Do not give to any agency because they will keep the money, and the victims never see it.

What's this got to do with the subject of this article?

There is no fraud quite like a charitable fraud.

Which is the reason why I rarely give to charity. If there is a local person/cause I will give directly to that person/cause.

“What’s this got to do with the subject of this article? “

The subject is theft by fraud from supposed charitable groups collecting donations for victims of the Hurricane.

Capish?

Yes. The one that angers me the most is the one which shows starving 3rd world children and asks “can’t you send just a couple of dollars to help little Sanga here?” If your human, you have to feel for the child but anyone with half a brain knows that a slick production such as this means Sanga is getting squat. They give 5% just to stay out of jail.

If your human should be if you’re human. I hate making that popular error.

This is why I never give money to any cause. No matter how noble the idea, the money just never gets to the people who need it.

I would like to give to the Wounded Warriors and other groups. But, I just don’t trust anyone to use the money for the idea stated.

The reason why we have juries, instead of victims, pass judgement on the guilty, is to remove the emotion from the judgement as much as possible.

Getting the money for the victims to the victims is a civil issue. And in a civil case, the jury passes judgement on the guilty in order to get the money TO the victims. And to do that, the jury has to HEAR from th victims.

What you are seeing is a public trial, where you are the jury and you're hearing from the victims.

The parallel is exact.

FRA asked what this had to do with the subject. I read (quickly) that the victims wanted to be part of the commission determining who got what. I, poorly, said a disinterested third party should make those decisions, and likened it to a court jury trial.

That said, I jumped the gun on this one, just had about 1 minute, scannned the excerpt, posted my gut reaction. My gut reaction is still correct, in a better world.

However it looks like there is a manure spreader full of corruption on the part of those who have control of the money.

Thus, after reading the entire article, scant as that may be, I’m begining to side with the victims here. Other charities getting the money instead of the victims? that’s a load of bull.
