I wasn’t aware that the president could “ban abortion”.

State issue or Constitutional Amendment. Not the Presidents whimsical decision.

“I wasn’t aware that the president could ‘ban abortion.’”

Exactly! But what he can do is appoint only Supreme Court judges who will overturn Roe v. Wade. Another way: Congress can take the issue out of the Court’s jurisdiction. This would put the issue back in the states, where it belongs under the Constitution.

States can do whatever they want with the abortion issue, under the Constitution (correctly read). Roe v. Wade invented things which are not in the Constitution, and should be ignored and overturned. It would be simple for a President just to say, we will not enforce Roe v. Wade. Unfortunately, no President has the guts to do this.

He can't. But guess what...no other GOP nominee would have either. Bush didn't. You can't replace the supreme court.

Politicians will never get rid of abortion. Only revival will.

Well, President Obama could, at least if he were so inclined. He would just make up an Executive Order banning it, and one of his Czars would send out policies for the states to follow. Those who disagreed would be taxed into oblivion. End of story.

But, no, a Republican could not do that.

A president can't but Romney will be attacked here anyway by the usual suspect.

Even the GOP platform acknowledges this simple truth by calling for "life amendment" to the constitution and presidents have no formal role in the amendment process.

No President can ban abortion. Talk about a keen sense for the obvious.
