GOP: Obama's 'You Didn't Build That' Will Take Us to November -- IPhone covers sell like hotcakes
Sunshine State News ^ | August 30, 2012 | Jim Saunders

It was one line --- a total of nine words --- in a lengthy speech in Roanoke, Va.

As he tried to make a point that successful people have received help in various ways, President Obama said, "If you've got a business --- you didn't build that."

But more than a month later, with Republicans rallying in Tampa at their national convention, that line has become a centerpiece of the GOP's campaign to try to oust Obama in November.

Speaker after speaker has portrayed the line as an affront to people who have built businesses and as evidence that the Democratic president is focused on big government instead of free enterprise. Republican leaders went so far as to give Tuesday night's convention session the theme, "We Built It."

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam said Wednesday that the GOP will continue to focus on the issue until the November election as it tries to draw distinctions between Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney. He said many voters understand that small-businesspeople "pour blood, sweat and tears" into making their ventures succeed.

Given that iphones are assembled in China I find that cover ironic. Not sure about the cover itself though. Iphones are designed and engineered in Cupertino California and almost all the profit goes there too but they weren’t built in the US.

"If you've got a business --- you didn't build that."

Yes, libtards, it was out-of-context. He immediately followed it up with: "Somebody else did." And capped it with "you're not so smart" and "you didn't work that hard." Whoops, better limit the damage and stick with "you didn't build that."

Ironic. A cover that says “Built by US” for a phone manufactured in China.

“Oh my God, why are they $40?” we asked.

I guarantee I can pick one up in Guangzhou next month for about $1.50. :)

I think Mitt would have more success with Android users than iPhone preeners.

I can dig that. Of course, there’s also the angle of selling a phone cover for $40 that was probably obtained for $2 or so. Ah, free enterprise... I can get behind that, too!

"See, I don’t think it’s just about justifying confiscatory tax rates, I think it also lays the ground work for asset confiscation/nationalization not unlike those that happen in Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela."

I think you are right. There is already this recurring theme that the rich are not spending, they are hoarding, they aren't doing their fair share, etc. That will lead to a capital assets tax and the beneficent government will take a percentage of your excess assets to redistribute to those who are less fortunate(those who support the regime).

I know, I know. You are correct.

But Zero didn’t say: “You didn’t build that...in the USA.” (l’m sure he’s glad it was not built in the US.)

We’re just working with what Bwock gave us...

I guess “spreading the wealth around” wasn’t strong enough rhetoric for the electorate in 2008...
