Most of the population is 40-50 miles downriver in Louisiana near Lake Ponchartrain.

There is levee breached farther downstream, that has breached. Water from this dam would flow through that breach.

pdated 12:01 p.m. ET] OK, so a small conflict in reports from officials near the Tangipahoa River.
Despite early reports of an apparent levee failure near Lake Tangipahoa, which is close to the Mississippi-Louisiana state line, Mayor Whitney Rawlings of McComb, Mississippi, says Pike County Civil Defense informed him that “the dam is holding, but they are concerned it may fail,” WWL reports on air.
He further said it’s a coin toss whether it will fail, but, “This might go. People need to be moving now.”
Bear with us as we work out the discrepancy in the reports and work to determine whether the dam has failed or is expected to fail.
The “dam” is really a spillway so there are no floodgates to open to release the stress. From various reports, inspectors are checking it but haven’t said exactly what’s happening. The water isn’t over the spillway so imo it’s probably going to burst. This link says waters are expected to rise to 17 feet below it.
Still, take a look at google maps pic. This is not a huge lake. Spread that much water out over 40-50 miles of downstream acreage and it might or might not have a noticeable impact.
Does anyone know how high the interstate bridge is over the river? This could be a major hindrance to relief efforts in the short term and to travel through this region in the long term.
The problem is that a Levee near Kentland (??) has burst, and water from a dam break would flow through that levee.

I just looked at his “schedule.” He has lunch planned with Biden.
Obama and his designated subordinates should have traveled there, to put a stop to this “hurricane” and related problems.
By their negligence, they let the hurricane and the floods have their way, people in harms way, homes flooded, electricity lost, etc.
They should have known from past experience that people in the area are helpless, will wait for the government to come to their rescue.
