Oh Really Mr. Reptilian Republican? By Karl Denninger (8/30/2012)
Last night was a spooge-fest at the RNC; one of the more-common lies was Ryan's:
Before the math and the momentum overwhelm us all, we are going to solve this nations economic problems, Ryan said. And Im going to level with you. We dont have that much time. But if we are serious, and smart, and we lead, we can do this.
Oh really Paul?
Paul Ryan, for those who have been living in a cave for the last couple of years, has put forward two separate "budgets" that are nothing more than mythical claims just as are Obama's Unicorn-laden promises. The premise that we can somehow magically return to 5% GDP growth on a sequential basis for 30 years when the last 30 was all powered by debt expansion rather than production is a pure farce.
Never mind that an unbroken 30 year real expansion is fantasy-land material anyway; it presumes no recessions, no policy mistakes, no business cycles and no outside forces that might get in the way. It is thus the sort of thing that only exists in the movies -- or in Lyin' Ryan's mind.
The lies came especially-thick when it came to Medicare:

And what does that have to do with the thread? What you’re experiencing right now has a name. It’s called Cognitive Dissonance. Right now you’re imposing a new “reality” on your world view to alleviate dissonance.
Nope. I’m calling a spade a spade.
All these erstwhile “conservatives” have gotten sucked into the hype and glitz (yet again) of a GOP convention designed to keep people thinking and believing that the GOP a) has a solution, b) that the GOP is going to cut spending, and c) that the GOP establishment gives a rat’s rear end what “the unwashed” think about politics.
It’s obviously working, because those of us who have the brain power to point out the facts are getting all manner of ad hominem attacks without any reason behind them. When people keep championing Ryan as some sort of budget cutter, all we thinking people need to do is point out that he voted to increase the welfare state by the most since LBJ when he voted for Medicare Part D. That’s it right there: A clear-cut litmus test whether someone is a fiscal conservative or not.
But let’s not stop there.
Did Ryan vote for TARP? Yes.
Did Ryan vote to bail out GM and Chrysler? Yes.
Some fiscal conservative.

I’ve read Denninger’s blog for over 4 years. As a financial analyst and economic prognosticator, he has few peers, and that’s why I still read him every day.
However, his political sense is, at best, questionable. Yes, he properly calls out liars and frauds of all political stripes. But he only criticizes, he never seems to understand that no person or politician is perfect. Is Ryan perfect? No - but at least he’s put forth a plan to get us moving in the right direction. Probably we’ll need to move more quickly than Ryan’s plan suggests - because Denninger is 100% correct that we’re in a world of hurt. But where is Obama’s plan (the guy Denninger voted for, by the way, despite numerous posters on his blog telling him that Obama would be a disaster)? Denninger rarely addresses this though, to give him some credit, I’m certain he won’t be repeating his mistake. Denninger had a political love interest in Libertarian Gary Johnson for a while, but has recently become disenchanted with him. Denninger’s chief problem here is political immaturity - because he simply doesn’t understand that NO ONE gets everything they want, and then gets ticked off about it. He needs to comprehend that we have only 2 roads that we can realistically travel down, one with an acceleration of the present disastrous course, the other a reversal of course, even if not perfectly executed or even envisioned. I choose the latter, and have long since stopped listening to Denninger’s hyper-criticism of all sides.
“Republicans voted to increase the deficit as well.”
THe last Rebublican budget in 2007 had a $200 billion deficit.
The Pelosi/Reid/Obama team made that 5X worse, exceeding $1 trillion every year of Obama’s years in office.
Which is worse?
It is fraudulent to say ‘they both do it’ and not include that Democrats are doing it 5X worse.
