I was very pleased by the American exceptionalism tone of Romney's speech last night.

Just finished reading this Wiki entry (Romney's mention of his mother prompted my curiosity). A biography of Mitt Romney's mother Lenore: Lenore Romney -- worth absorbing.

Hasn’t he already proceeded to marginalize the right, and the tea party, and Palin?

Hasn’t he already switched back to being pro-abortion”

A vote for Mittens is a vote for NOTHING.

A vote for Mittens is a vote against Barry not a vote for Mittens.

A vote for Barry is a vote against Mittens.

Neither elitist snob can define their candidacy beyond the negatives of their opponent.

Lies to get elected. We’ll be living in the United State of Massachusettes soon enough. (As if we weren’t already)

Again, the election is the s*** sandwich or the giant douche.

Romney reminds me of a good many smart businessmen I have known. They live their own lives by a set of solid small-c conservative rules, but they are too busy solving smaller daily problems to think much about political conservatism as a coherent system. Such people often pay lip service to the left-of-center conventional media wisdom about big government and public morality even as they rigorously practice all the bourgeois virtues of thrift, hard work, neighborliness, sobriety, and sexual continence in their personal affairs. As long as the conventional wisdom doesn't impact their daily lives in a concrete way, why bother challenging it? They have better uses for their time.

People mistakenly see Mitt Romney as pure businessman, because he was in business off and on for about 20 years, but he has been running for political office for the last 20 years, and was involved in politics to a degree during the 1980s, he was fundraising as a democrat at the beginings of the 1990s, he was political enough in 1979 to leave the GOP because of Reagan.

He is the son of a Governor, and Presidential candidate father, and a Senate candidate mother. he was with his father when they walked out in protest of Goldwater in 1964.

Mitt has always been political, and passionately anti-conservative, he even spent his own money running ads against Steve Forbes and the flat tax in 1996, he used to spend his money to defeat republican candidates and incumbents to replace them with democrats, Mitt has always known his own personal politics.

Hi, CW.

I think he's saying and doing all that he can to be elected.

Many are going with OBA. He scared me when he said that he will replace Obamacare; not to repeal.

I don’t know if Mitt is becoming more conservative but I do know it is possible to change. As conservatives our job is to try to educate people about conservatism so that we can move them to our side.

If we have already adopted the philosophy that people cannot be moved to conservatism then we should just hang it up now, and Rush should just retire and spend his last years playing golf.

Is the necessity of Conservatism becoming apparent to Mitt in terms of what’s best for the United States of America?

I love spelling out: United States of America. It’s a privilege.

I was hoping that you would answer post 18, did you know “throughout this campaign”, that Mitt was a “health of the mother” abortion supporter?

Did any or all of you Romney supporters reading this know that, or is this a bombshell that just dropped on you 4 days ago?

“My position has been clear throughout this campaign,” Romney said. “I’m in favor of abortion being legal in the case of rape and incest, and the health and life of the mother.”

As in 2008, most of the media accept all the carefully scripted images of Obama as Gospel truth while they busy themselves trying to either hide or spin away all those extemporaneous words and deeds that display Obama's true beliefs

They know Obama's true beliefs. This is a coordinated effort being run in concert to change the US. Liberals have taken over the Democratic party and the Democrats are marching us in lock step towards socialism. And they have about 40 percent of the voting mass willing to go along with them. There is no "working together". You're either for cutting spending or your not. You're either for abortion or your not. You're either for illegals or your not. You're either for gay marriages or your not.

Conservatives have better wake up or we're going become another England.

Well, this thread is no pep rally for Mittler.

As to the silly notion that Mittler is trending conservative, puhleeze!

As to Mittler's late mommy Lenore, Wikipedia does note that her ill-conceived US Senate race in 1970 was lost to Philip Hart by a 2-1 landslide although Hart and his wife had been arrested in anti-Vietnam War protests. Wikipedia also failed to note that she ran as a full-throated pro-abort pom pom girl (as a Republican no less) more than two years BEFORE Roe vs. Wade. That's Mittler's mommy.

Husband George ran for POTUS in 1968 as a stalking horse for Nelson Rockefeller but self-destructed when he claimed to have been "brainwashed" into supporting the Viet Nam War. As even anti-war Senator Gene McCarthy observed at the time, brainwashing was too drastic when a light rinse would have sufficed. That's Mittler's daddy.

Just WHAT are we expecting of Mittler that is any good whatsoever???

Mitt will be pushed whichever way his followers are pushing him. If we tea-partiers shout more and demonstrate more and come out more, we can push him more to our side. I have no illusions about Mitt being anywhere near a Palin, but he’s pliable, so lets ply him to our side.

No!!! ROTFLOL Really now!!! Let me get this straight you honestly really think that Mitt Romney is now going to sell out the all the Money-Men who got him here? That he is going to reverse his political ideological stances on issues that he has spent his whole political career advancing? Come on now nice try at spin but that cycle shut off a long time ago.

I mean really people have access to LexusNexis, Government.com,org,net, all his speeches, government business, private sector records, etc... people who took to the time to look into Mitt Romney know exactly who he is and what he stands for. There is no guessing about who Mitt is anymore. It is all out there with no interpretation needed.

It was a nice speech on American exceptionalism but he is not going to throw away his core beliefs out the window based on a campaign speech.
