In the late 50s, while serving in the Air
Force, I had a friend who was from Texas and he wanted me to hear a singer that he knew of. He had a reel to reel tape and it was early Willie. He was unknown at the time, and in those days his style was punctuated by verbal pauses. There was a definite style that would take him a long way. A few years later I started hearing more about Willie and his songs, followed by Willie his own self. He is definitely one of a kind. I’m a lifelong fan of his.
