Would that be the same free speech that Rove sought to take from Akin???
Rove didn’t try to take free speech from Akin. In Akin’s world, in Rove’s world, in my world, Akin can say whatever he wants.
But when he’s running for Senate and he says something blatantly offensive and stupid, as he did, he may well cost the GOP control of the Senate.
It’s not about his free speech, which he can exercise till the day he dies, but rather about his character, his ability to step out of the race for the good of the country he serves.
The next President will almost certainly nominate multiple Supreme Court justices, and control of the Senate is crucial to making sure they’re not liberal wackos.
The next President must have a majority in the Senate to repeal Obamacare.
The Akin issue isn’t about his right to say stupid stuff, but rather about his ego damaging the future of this nation.
