Everyone can use some free gas these days, right? As a part of his Memphis Summer Challenge Initiative, Mayor A.C. Wharton and several community conscious sponsors have joined forces to offer free $50 gas cards to citizens who turn in guns, as part of an effort to stop gun violence in the city of Memphis, particularly among teens. The event is going to take place on Saturday, September 15, 2012 in the parking lot of Bloomfield Baptist Church, located at 123 S, Parkway West, Memphis, TN 39109, from 10:00 a.m until 2:00 p.m. There will be no questions asked about who the owner of the gun is or where the gun came from. Participants can get up to 3 gas cards (worth $150) for turning in the guns and 2 tickets (per person) to a Memphis Grizzlie NBA Basketball game.

Another great opportunity for bold freedom activists in Tennessee to obtain decent guns for a good price.

Private sales are legal in Tennessee.

Sounds an awful lot like they’re using taxpayer money to incentivize the theft of firearms.

$50 gas card? I’d think a 6-pack of Mickey’s Big Mouths would be a cheaper, better incentive.

“....offer free $50 gas cards to citizens who turn in guns....”

.
The cards are not free — they are worth the price of the guns.

Sheesh, who is kidding whom?

These gun “buy back” programs always give me an icky feeling. At the very least, they are a stupid and useless gesture done by anti-gun feelgood politicians. And at the worst it allows them to use street criminals and burglars to do the gun rounding-up for them without getting their hands dirty. I have yet to see a story where the police diligently try to track down and return any firearms reported as stolen to their rightful owners. They probably cull the safe-queens if any for themselves and friends, and send the rest to a blast furnace.

Another great opportunity for thugs to follow unarmed wimpy people back to their homes.

“....offer free $50 gas cards to citizens who turn in guns....”

That’s racist!!!

Are they running background checks to make sure everyone is a citizen? No.

More than likely, Memphis residents will be buying back their own stolen guns. City Hall has been doing these gun buys for years with ZERO success.

I’ll buy you $50 worth of gas for a gun but I’ve got to see the gun first.
