Fannie Eugene drove to Entergy's new complaint center in Mid-City on Saturday to see when power might be restored at her house in the Lower 9th Ward. "My husband has emphysema, so it's getting harder by the day," said Eugene, 60.
She hoped to find out if relief was in sight soon. "So I asked them, 'Are you working in my area?'" Eugene said. More than half the city's households still lack power. But she received no real news at the complaint center, which is located at 3400 Canal St., she said. "They're just open," she said. "They don't know anything." The clerk that assisted her had a map of red dots showing that her neighborhood had indeed lost power during Hurricane Isaac. But the clerk couldn't tell Eugene whether that was because of a downed line, a blown transformer or anything else.
Eugene said she'd seen little damage in surrounding blocks, mostly torn-up shrubbery, she said. So she'd like to know what's causing the hold-up. "That's what frustrates people most," she said. "Entergy can't give us details; they don't tell us anything." And without that crucial information, Eugene debated whether she and her 71-year-old husband should leave town, to stay with friends who have working air conditioning. She was frustrated, she said.

But with all the city's substations working, Entergy should now know what held up power restoration in each area, she said. She demanded that the utility company provide the city -- its supervisory authority -- a layout of such damage, by district and by neighborhood, to give residents an idea when Entergy might be able to restore power to their section of town. The company hasn't provided it yet.

I have Entergy as an electric Co. and you can't get much better.
They cover a lot of rural areas and it's over and hour drive just between each outage.
This is just a bunch of no nothing idiots that haven't a clue as to how much damage there was and think it should be like any other time they are without power.
If you aren't aware of it, that's where the bitch comes from.
They are normally so quick to get the power back, it's unusual for it to be several days.
After Ike, the power was back where I now live after 4 to 5 days. It wasn't just replace a few downed power lines. It was replace miles of downed post holding up the lines.
They worked 24 hours a day to get the power back.

The reality is that Entergy trucks were parked in lots and workers sat doing nothing. There didn’t seem to be any urgency. People just wanted some idea about the scope of the work and when they could expect power so they could make some decisions. The storm was barely a Cat 1 and there was minimal damage in Orleans Parish. So the question is: What is taking so long?
Several workers from out of state went to Bourbon Street and partied. There were reports that workers wanted to milk the work and make more money. That didn’t help.
If folks want a taste of really bad utility service, come to the Washington-Baltimore region. I live in BGE-land. BGE is even worse than PEPCO.
We had a 45-minute windstorm with a modest amount of rain back in early July. Over 75% of BGE customers lost power. I didn’t get my power back for four days. The funny thing is, I didn’t actually lose power until the day after the storm. I was fortunate. There were folks without power for over a week. That’s not unusual. I’ve lost power in bright, sun-shiney weather with barely a breeze in the air.
We seldom get hit by more than a bad thunderstorm. Yet, I average over 10 days per year without power. I finally had a 20KW generator installed, but the propane bill for even a few days comes to hundreds of dollars.
NO one was told it might be a week or LONGER. Major storms 50 years ago didn't take this long to restore power to areas that have NO DAMAGE, and there is NO evidence of Entergy trucks working nobody has seen them at all. There have been more Elvis sightings than Entergy truck sightings.
Would have you have been okay with hundreds of trucks (we've been told) sitting in a WalMart parking lot supposedly “waiting for orders”, “waiting to be deployed”?
This is about Obama coming and waving his hand to magically fix everything.
This is about power, payoff and Unions. THAT is what this is about.

I’m not a know nothing idiot. I lost my power last Tuesday night and am still waiting for power. When you see trucks sitting in parking lots doing nothing, hear stories of out of town utility workers hanging out in strip clubs on Bourbon St. instead of being assigned work duties, and see Casinos lit up before residential areas are, you can’t tell me how competent Entergy is. My neighborhood, not just my block, has no damage, no trees down, no power lines down, and no transformers blown. Areas with worse damage have been restored, but not my area. A group of Section 8 apartments in back of my house got their power back last night. These people don’t even pay their own utility bills. There is someone in charge who is not doing their job coordinating efforts needed. Next time I buy a house, I’m buying one on the same grid as a casino.
On the flip side, many can't afford to stay someplace that has power and A/C in the interim and it is hot and humid down in this neck of the woods - if folks have breathing problems they will suffer and some may die. Hell, after Katrina we had power in S. MS within 5 days - an amazing feat by the crews who banmded together.
You don't have a clue what it takes to get the power back on so you gripe.
Nobody ever works hard enough or long enough for you.
They need to work harder and longer. They don't need to rest, eat, or even sleep you need your power.
For some reason people like you believe you are more important than anyone else and your power should be on first.
If your not griping about the “evil rich” getting their power on before you, your griping about the poor getting their power on before you.

There was damage over a large area and it affected a lot of people, not just you.

I may be miserable from the heat, which is temporary, but you will always be miserable and I am glad that I am not a person like you.
You sit for over a week in 90 degree heat while casinos are up and running and see if you don’t complain. I suppose you have never complained about anything in your entire life. I highly doubt it. Sounds like you’re complaining right now.

No,actually they weren't, because nobody had any idea how long that thing would take to move through, and the severity of the damage it would inflict.
There are downed utility lines, transformers, and poles by the thousands, not to mention reconnecting the service drop to your house, if it's any condition to be reconnected to.
Some people will not get power for a month or more if they have damage to the service service distribution equipment they own and are responsible for, which is from the weather head on down.
There are crews from 29 states working 24/7.
Agree with the people having no concept of reality though, there is absolutely no doubt about that.
The temperature was over 100 both times.

You're without power for 3-4 days and all you can do is complain.
I got news for you, Mr. I didn’t have power for 5 or more weeks after Katrina and no one criticized Entergy that I am aware of. That was a major storm and no one expected fast service. But we pay dearly for our utility bills every month, and this storm was only 5 mph over tropical storm status. My husband just went out and found a utility truck worker from Houston, and found out that they don’t know the area and were not provided with maps or GPS devices. Yes, I’m miserable. The heat is unbearable and their isn’t any reason for the incompetence being shown by Entergy for this storm. If this had been a Cat 2 or higher, no one would expect power back this soon. But a tropical storm? Give me a break.
Oh, BTW, I hope you’re not looking for any medals for not complaining during Rita. That was another major storm, not a tropical storm. You’re doggone right I’m complaining because I’m not being taken care of fast enough. And not by everyone, just the stupid utility company that you seem to be so in love with. Like I said, I’ll bet you have complained a time or two in your life because things didn’t go as you like it, so don’t give me that goody-goody two shoes routine.
