TAMPA, August 31, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) Mitt Romney vetted former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice as his vice presidential running mate, but turned her down because her pro-choice, pro-homosexual views would split the party, according to media reports.
Condi was fully vetted to become Mitt Romneys running mate, an unnamed campaign source told RadarOnline.com. Romney thought Rice would add foreign policy expertise and he knew she would help with the all important female vote and African American support.
The problem? Condoleeza Rice describes herself as mildly pro-choice, favors some kind of legal recognition for homosexual unions, held a prominent post in the unpopular George W. Bush administration, backs Affirmative Action, and may have voted for Barack Obama in 2008.
Mitts advisers talked him out of it, because Condi is pro-choice and she isnt willing to change her position on the controversial issue, the source said.
These advisers reportedly told the former Massachusetts governor ultra conservative support would immediately be lost if he chose Rice.
That proved to be good advice. After rumors surfaced that Rice had been vetted for veep, values voters sparked a rebellion.
Marjorie Dannenfelser of the Susan B. Anthony List called Rice an unqualified candidate, and Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council described her candidacy as a non-starter. Conservative activist Richard Viguerie encouraged his readers to call the Romney campaign to talk them out of offering Rice the number two spot.
Instead, Romney chose Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, a selection that left many pro-life leaders thrilled.
Rice still graced the platform at the Republican National Convention the same night as John McCain, the 2008 nominee who attempted to dilute the GOPs pro-life plank four years ago.
The former Bush-41 adviser may still harbor political ambitions. According to the source, she is thinking seriously about running for governor of California, where Republicans often hold pro-abortion and pro-homosexual views.
How about her vote for Obama last time around?
That and that she voted for Obama in 08
Totally. Two pro-choice, pro-gay candidates on the ticket would have destroyed it.
That’s in the article as well.
.....and her friendship with Vallerie Jarrett?
I don’t get the adulation for Rice. She is a RINO idiot, who compared her experiences in Jim Crow with the KKK to the Palestinians under Israelis. Disgusting.
Condi stated previously in an interview that she didn’t want to be the VP candidate. Just as well...Ryan is so much better of a selection. Thanks Mitt.
That would have required me to read the article.
Condi is very smart but too liberal for me. However, I would have voted for Romney had she been his choice because I will vote for ABO.
Romney was pro-abortion and pro-gay just a few years ago, wasn’t he?
But how could he do that? I’m told over and over again on this website that Romney and Obama are exactly the same on the life issue. I’m sure for Obama, having a pro-death Vice President is an requirement.
I’m no Condi enthusiast but did she actually endorse or say she did vote for Maobama?
I do not beleive this for one minute because Romney is pro-abortion and pro-homosexual.
Oh, wait maybe he was trying to fool conservatives into thinking he was.
“... and may have voted for Barack Obama in 2008.”
She made a positive statement about Obama’s election, first black POTUS, blah blah blah. So did dozens of other folks. Some have chosen to translate that comment into “Rice voted for Obama.” No one knows who she voted for, and odds are no more than 50-50, if that, that she actually voted for Obama.
Unlike what the Romney campaign seemed to think (if this article can be trusted) Secretary Rice would NOT have helped with the African-American vote. Blacks will vote 10 to 1 for President Obama, regardless of who the GOP puts on the ticket.
Oh get off the apology tour.
he still is ~
Mitt’s advisers have more sense than a bunch of “conservative” freepers who gush over RINO Condi and pretend she did a good job at the State Dept.
