The opening game has been Thursday for several years at the home of the defending Super Bowl Champions. They moved it back one day because Obama is speaking Thursday night so Obama gave Clinton the game spot.

What is the rational for a Wednesday night game ? Could be because college games have become standard viewing on Thursdays and Fridays. At least in early September.

The NFL usually kicks off on Thursday nights but NBC moved the game to Wednesday this year because Obama is speaking on Thursday night.
