The prohibitive cost of driving to work and paying for parking in uptown Charlotte every day forces Kathy Beck to take public transportation.
But the Democratic National Convention will throw ripples and kinks into her schedule, as well as cutting into her bottom line.
The single mother from Bessemer City will have to drive her own car and fork over parking fees all week, while arriving for work much earlier each morning.
Oh, and shell also have to work next Saturday to make up time thats missed during the convention craziness.
It doesnt leave a good taste in my mouth, Beck said during her lunch break Wednesday. Cause when youre a single woman, every dollar counts.

DNC parking could get expensive
Its not right, said one uptown worker, who asked not to be identified. Everyone related to the DNC is in hotels and walking near the Time Warner Arena. The only people parking are workers, who have to eat it.
The Democratic National Convention comes to Charlotte!

Look for some brawls and cussing and bad tempers.
My [very conservative] brother works in downtown Charlotte at NASCAR. Texted me yesterday that parking and traffic were a complete mess and that he’d be taking public transport to work . . . “just like a lib.”
Hope Charlotte is stocked up on mayonnaise for Debbie Wasserman-Shultz’ hair.

It's a southern thang.
