Sorkin Slanders the Tea Party - And liberal vulture goes into cardiac arrest
The American Spectator ^ | September 4, 2012 | Matt Purple

The first season of The Newsroom, HBO's drama about a cable news broadcast that decides to take on the Tea Party, came to a merciful end last week. The show began as a masochistic hourly ritual of pompous harangues, left-wing agitprop, clichéd love triangles, and error-riddled "news" presentations. It got even worse from there.

Much of the finale was spent in a hospital ward after news anchor and KeithOlbermann mimic WillMcEvoy, played by JeffDaniels, overdosed on antidepressants. At one point, Will jokes that his nurse is trying to euthanize him. After nine episodes, I think many of us were wishing she would.

Fortunately, in a speechifying whirlwind about Don Quixote and the evils of voter ID (and when have those things not gone together?), Will manages to rise from his bed. He's soon back at work, reporting the news behind his anchor desk.

That's when we're treated to this on-air monologue:

"They can call themselves the Tea Party. They can call themselves conservatives. They can even call themselves Republicans, though Republicans certainly shouldn't. But we should call them what they are: the American Taliban."

.......The Newsroom provides an airtight world where characters make these proclamations and pushover conservatives (or cliché dissenting Republicans, as South Park once called them) never retaliate with pesky facts. Liberal culture is stuck in a loop, needing to reinforce its opinions over and over again.

It's the same thing that's happening at MSNBC where Meghan McCain is considered a reliable tap into the Republican psyche. Every evening it's a drumbeat of the same stories while left-wing contributors smirk and nod vigorously. Conservative guests who could articulately challenge the conventional wisdom are rarely allowed on....

Every so-called Conservative that patronizes this form of programming is a contributor to the crap we’re fighting against.

About eight years ago my wife and I decided to add HBO to our tv selection chiefly due to wanting to watch The Sopranos. There were some other original programming that was decent, and we seemed to find movies we liked. Then we started getting an avalanche of what can be charitably called crap programming with terrible movies and awful, offensive liberal and stupid themes (Hung, and the one about the polygamist come to mind). I haven’t watched one episode of Sorkin’s latest dreck and have no plans to do so. In fact, we’re seriously thinking of junking HBO. Showtime isn’t much better, although it does have Penn and Teller’s “Bulls...” which is at least amusing and destroys a lot of liberal myths.

Rush has it right: The Newsroom is a great sign that the libtards are fatally detached from reality, swimming in their own self-reinforcing fantasy cocoon.

I run a car-related discussion forum. One of my more liberal members posted a YouTube video of the show on my forum. I deleted the post and PMd the guy and told him straight up that I was one of the "Tea Partiers" that the show was comparing to the Taliban, and that I deeply resented the comparison.

I never have subscribed to HBO. At first, it was because I did not want to pay the premium, but after some of the junk they have aired, I am glad I never did. Is this the channel on which Bill Maher spews his venom?

I refuse to watch this garbage. I know their meme/talking points before they say them and I can debunk them with little or no effort.

Exactly.

Precisely. I won't have cable in my house, and I haven't had cable anywhere I've lived since 1973, when the "cool" apartment I was in furnished cable to everyone. Their TV, their cable, built into the rent.

Sorkin and his gay brethren would be dead if the Tea Party was like the Taliban. He would be stoned to death with the type of rocks he can't smoke.

Guess that is another actor to cross off the ‘go see’ list.
