I have a cute story about tradition:

There was this young newlywed wife who was cooking her first Christmas Ham. Her husband was in the kitchen helping her out when he noticed a funny thing. After she had removed he Ham from it’s packaging the first thing she did was to cut off the heel and discard it.

Her husband asked her why she had done that. She replied that was what her mom always did when she cooked a Ham. He had her call her mom and ask her why she did that. Her mom replied that was the way her mom, (Grandmother now), had always done it.

They got Grandma on a three-way connection and asked her why she cut off the heel on the Ham. Her Grandmother replied I cut off the Heel of the Ham because my pan was too small for the whole Ham!

Tradition! It starts out with a good reason and then is mindlessly followed thereafter even when the reason for it is long gone.
