An armed security guard opened fire on would-be robbers early Tuesday at a Melbourne, Florida, Internet café, striking one of them, police said. Three armed individuals burst into the Allied Veterans of the World arcade on Babcock Street about 4 a.m. to rob the business, Melbourne police said.

The video shows the security officer responding within three seconds, able to control his gunfire, remove himself from harms way, take protective cover and wound one of the robbers.

Why weren’t at least 9 bystanders hit? The NYPD should hire this guy as a firearms instructor.

Great reaction time by this guard.

But the company probably owes him some new underwear.

That is damned impressive. Who would rob a place called Allied Veterans of the World?

Textbook response. This guy did it exactly right under the circumstances.

Under control, courageous, cool under fire, tactically sound, quick to take action, accurate shot, assertive...

How long till they fire him you figure?

It wasn’t meant to be funny. Seriously, if a minimum-wage security guard can perform this well, the NYPD should hire him to conduct some remedial firearms training.

If you still don’t know what I’m referencing, check out this thread,

Oops — # 8 was intended for you.

(I know, I know — it’s ironic that my “aim” isn’t even good on an Internet thread.)

Without the video... the security guard would be labeled a vigilante. We would be seeing pictures of the boys from when they were twelve, and told that they were just looking for a place to drink their ice tea and eat their skittles. There would be an outcry from Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton, and of course another special prosecutor.

Jesse and Al sell a lot of video systems, let me tell you.

“Security guards” aren’t always low wage or low respect in other countries. Don’t know about Australia, but the guy who bought my old house was from South Africa, where he was a security guard for a store. This type of work was a lot more skilled and demanding there, because according to him, most shoplifters are armed and don’t have a lot to lose.

Because there wasn’t any bystanders around to hit.

Good job by the guard. Good sight alignment, good use of cover, quick reaction.

Many daytime police officers “moonlight” as security guards for a little extra money. I’ll bet a weeks pay this guy probably is a range instructor.

I have never been called upon to fire upon another person and I pray that I will never have to but I don’t have to make a decision on that.

He does. Press the right buttons and I will lay down fire until the threat is stopped. Even then, I will be prepared to offer additional fire to cease any further aggression.

This is not my choice. It is the choice of others who prey upon the Righteous. I will do whatever is required to defeat the attacks of the criminals and I will sue their families in Civil Court for the cost of ammunition expended.

Pick a softer target than a Texan. I carry every day.
